i was looking at short shifter prices, and there are different ones available for teg and civic.

i was just wondering which one would u put in if ur civic has a b18c g/box and engine swap.

the catalogue didnt have a other prices for car model's too, so does it matter what you have either a Cxi or VtiR

I hope someone can help me, please refer to pic: http://www.ozhonda.com/gallery/data/2/3IMG_5633.jpg that is from wyn's link.

Can someone advise if the yellow item can be purchased seperately ?? Because I am assuming I don't have one installed as we speak !

Cut the long story short, I had a short shifter, it was removed and stock one was installed. The stock had the black rubber boot but the yellow ring zig zaggy thing was not available.

Thanks.

I believe all 92-00 civic short shifters are the same. So it wouldn't really matter.

elim, the little yellow part SHOULD be there. If its not you will have a sloppy gearstick (and you don't want that now do you? :p)

hey wynode, of course I don't :P but basically my short shifter had a metal ring ( in place of the yellow part ) so there was no need for the yellow item.

However I have had this shifter removed and installed the stock one. Before putting the stock one in, there is no yellow part so based on this, I've assumed I don't have one installed.

It's not sloppy surprisingly but it's 'sticky', not smooth but I'm assuming that's because there's no lubrication.....

Now the question is, can I purchase this yellow item ?

Unless there's a short shifter out there available that replaces everything including the rubber with the yellow item inside ?

basicly it takes a screw driver, 10mm and 12mm wrench thats it

heres a quick how to
-remove the center console and arm rest all as one pice(scres are in it you just have to look around by the seats ect)
-remove the shift knob
-now slide the center console backwards torwards the rear seats untill the clips detach then pill the whole asembly ou

-jack the car up and support on jackstands
-undo the bolts in the drivers compartment that hold the shifter
-now crawl under the car and unbolts the one bolt that holds the shifter to the shift leaver assembly(sounds complicated but its easy 1 freaking bolt lol)
-also undo the bolts holding the shifter bushing(right in the same area as the step above)
-remove as one pice
-it is MUCH easyer to do this if you remove the center section of the exhaust

also what I noticed worked even better then a short shifeter were energy suspension shift bushings, they gave the shifter that bolt action rifle feel! eriusly every gear is just snick snick and your in,hard to missshift(cost about 20 shipped)

can someone clarify with me whether or not short shifters harm your gearbox in the long run? cos always wanted to short shift my civic mainly for the looks but at the same time dont wanna do any damage!

As far as your gearbox knows you're using your regular shifter, just faster haha. So obviously a bit of extra wear may take place coz you're shifting faster, but you shouldnt need to worry about it coz it may take like 2 weeks off the gearbox life if anything?

Of course if you can't shift for crap as it is, i hear it takes a while to get used to shifting with it so you'll do a little bit of damage grinding and whatnot! lol

my mechanic told me not to get 1 as a short shifter kills ur synchros. a short shifter decreases the distance between ur gears. so u shift quicker. meaning u spend less time in nuetral between gears.

and because its so much quicker to shift u have less time for the synchros to rev match and get ready for the gear and whatnot and in the end u're just forcing gears in. which means u lower the life of ur synchros and gearbox

of course some ppl are good shifters and rev match themselves and some ppl have good habits. there could be ppl with short shifters who have gearboxes in better condition that bad shifters with all stock components.
