FFS!! Let my sis drive the Accord Euro and she goes full it up for me. I though, wow, thanx. Asked her what she put in and she said ULP. I totally flipped :x Now my Accord's gonna die. Poor Accord...has to drink a full tank of 93 octane, when i've only ever filled it up with PULP. Even my mum fills it with PULP, GRR!!

Moral of the story, don't let your sis drive a good car.

Sorry, had to vent my anger. Detele this thread if you want admins.

drain it all and put it into small jerry cans and then write things on the road with it. Get a lighter and go watch from your veranda as your name is burning in the middle of the road :D

Don't worry too much... Like Spoon-Accord mentioned, dump a bottle of Octane booster.

New cars can now retard it's timing to run lower grade petrol in an emergency Accord requires min 95RON and u have 91RON (I don't think it's 93) it shouldn't be too much of a worry... take it easy on the car for now, reach half a tank, fill her up with Premium..

Hi Guys,

Where do you get octane boosters from?

EuroAccord13's reply is spot on. This is what the mechanics have told me also.

Take it easy on the engine and fill up half way.

you can get octane boosters from any auto shop (autobarn, repco, supercheap, etc.) including K-mart

Sorry to head off topic slightly.... but I do the exact opposite of SLugoids predicament. The 4th gen Accords can run no dramas on 91RON - but I only ever use BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax (both 98 ).

Using fuel thats of a higher grade wont do much harm yeah? Someone did tell me it can cause harder wear on the rings.

Not trying to go off topic, but just as a general on fuel in Australia..

I have a friend who works in the industry and occasionally, they test fuel from different companies... guess what... 98RON is not really 98RON.. it's less than that.

Running lower RON than recommended does more harm of course, but in the long run, running higher doesn't. If a car was tuned to run maximum efficiency on xxRON there is no need to run higher RON. Higher RON gives slightly more Kms per tank due to the cleaniness of the fuel which combust better and better combustion means more efficient burning and less energy to move a car.

As for the wear and tear on the seals and rings, I've heard about that as well but haven't seen physical evidence on it yet.

I believe Optimax is not 98RON, but even Mobil Synergy 8000??

Anyway, I realised that she only filled like $10 worth of fuel, so today, I topped it back up with some Optimax. Feel much better now ;)

As long as you take it easy with that fuel.....then you'll be fine (which you should be doing anyway if you are still running in your car)....

bad move in topping up with optimax.....shoulda run her dry then got a fresh batch of PULP....now you'll have to wait longer to drive her hard :(

cheers

That's not right.
I'm not sure about other companies, but BP Ultimate does have a minimum RON of 98 or higher. It'll tell you that if you go to their website and look at the technical datasheet.

Thats right, BP have a minimum RON of 98. Shell though state that the average RON is 98 from memory?
