u reckon the 03 04 05 models will be compatible with the 06 sat nav? cuz wouldnt the cd player be intergrated with the sat nav like it is on the TSX's in the states?

yes thats what we new at the time.....after the sales meeting this morn i was told 100% sat nav yes.but have no ideas on cosmetics....it could be very minor so lets not all think we have 'old' cars yet lol

ooh the 30th aniv accord vti is out too.
Full leather, 8 way electric drivers seat, rev sensors, boot lip spoiler and badging too!

Great value for money for 35k on the road!

I don't see why it can't be integrated :|

but would it be worth them doing the change is the question.. i'm sure Honda will charge an arm and a leg for this..

It's a pity - i wanted this ages ago. It always looked damn sexy in the TSX's :(

it is about time, if i got a dollar for everytime i was asked if u could option sat nav id be rich!
All we need is sat nav in the other accords and MDX now!

jamchen
31-10-2005, 01:11 PM
i second the navi option for MDX... but i do understand why they do not have navi as an option for MDX. it is the fact that MDX are made primarily for navi or non-navi in the production... that is if you want navi, then they need to find one been made with navi or they have to make it ... ( because its no way for after-production change over as the screen also has options such as AC and fan speed)...also uncertained demand for the newcomer also makes Honda to go for the cheaper version...

however i got a question for you James... is the navi for euro gonna be the in-dash one? coz if it is... then i think they are in the same situation as MDX where they have to make it navi during production...( not like toyota's stright change over)

cheers..

The Lux wont be $35k esp with all this extra gear. IMHO the value in the Euro is the standard at $35k. If I want to spend $45k on a 4 cyclinder ill be paying the extra for the Liberty GT.

I think we will get the indash sat nav you see in the UK Euro - ie a whole redesign of the centre console.

I am fairly sure that includes a fuel computer! Now that would be good. Sat nav is nice to have until the Honda dealer tells you how much the sat nav costs as an option. Good for sales reps though or people who can use the Euro as a business vehicle (as the cost is defrayed).

IMO, the difference is in the center console, steering wheel and instrument colour. One nice thing is that the pic shows silver trim with black leather. I hope that they provide this combo standard instead of the blue woodgrain.

Exterior-wise, I think 03-05 models actually look better.
I don't think we can rely on those photos to predict what Australia will get.
Even the current Euros have different instrument cluster from Japan.

True but it would certainly be odd for the Australian market Euro to look different to the UK version.

If you look at this link below Honda UK has released preview pics (click on 2006 preview). I would be very surprised if the Australian Euro had different sheet metal to this model as it would mean extra cost for production for Honda at the factory. How that could be justified I don't know - that is why I think this is what it will look like.

If it is the similar to the one in the TSX (they do look different), then it should have a touch screen interface.

Wonder if it will be possible to fit to an older models. I know they won't be cheap if they come in ...but at the trade price I get at a honda dealer ...I may have to look into it.

Toyota and Lexus charge just under $5000 for their touch screen Sat nav system... I found it is the most user-friendly system on the market. I hope Honda Australia can do even better than Toyota in both cost and practicality.

That is an interesting question - physically it seems to just replace the entire centre console including stereo so it is probably possible. Perhaps one hardware area that might be an issue is a link to the ECU (as it has that fuel consumption computer). So whether or not it connects to pins we already have (ie plug and play) or whether it is a totally different ECU - don't know.

Sometimes small differences bring these sorts of ideas crashing down. Noel on TSX club tried to find out whether a Canadian TSX instrument cluster would fit the Euro. He ultimately discovered that whilst the assembly was the same size, etc - the plugs at the back of the assembly are a totally different shape.

Guys

A couple of you know that I am about to buy an Sti and want a sat nav solution that can work in the Sti and teh accord.

I am about to buy a Navman ICN520 which RRPs for $895 and works extremely well. You can move it between cars and even use it whilst walking around for the ultimate in geekery. Further to the above you can't sync your accord with your puter and update maps, contact, red light camera positions etc which you can with the navman as well as most other handheld GPS units

I think paying 3000+ for sat nav in this day and age is a big waste; factory fitted or not (the navman comes with a nice dashboard mount)

I agree....a portable one is a much better option.

my friends parents recently bought a jeep grand cherokee. That came with GPS and it was a handheld one as well. not sure whether it was navman or wat, but yeah portable is nice to have.

BUT

for me personally, i was going to get a headunit grade by chucking in an ALPINE IVA-D300E LCD into the centre console and if the satnav option has preouts and can be modified so that it can play DVD's, music, TV and watnot, i think i would get that because the screen would already be integrated into the OEM headunit if u know what i mean.....

jamchen
01-11-2005, 11:28 PM
as yfin pointed out, there are lots of other things involved by non-navi and navi... like the plugs, fuel computers etc... oh. also do not forget you need a space to place your GPS receiver and map(DVD) reader...
but the good thing about factory fitted navi is that its designed specifically for the model and its backed up by the company...
as for the portable navi, i found that mio also has good products and i think its worthwhile to check them out...

jamchen - you do not need a map reader anymore for devices like the navman and mio.

The devices usually have some sort of memory card or internal storage which holds all the maps. They also all come with dashboard/windscreen mounts so installation is quite rudimentary and I believe the portability outweighs the factory fitment.

jamchen
02-11-2005, 07:36 AM
well i was referring to the standard navigation system where u get a screen in dash-board and have a gps receiver and a map reader somewhere in the car to read the map dvd...

for the sat-nav to be worthwhile in my opinion, it'll need to be a touchscreen system, with additional features (eg. fuel consumption, maintenance functions) for around $3000 like the one Subaru has introduced as an option for the Liberty (shown below):

Hard to say unless someone out there has seen the 06 Aus model. My tip is the sat nat centre console will look similar to the UK variant -- that includes the premium sound
