Hey all

just got a CF bonet oem one

my question is at the very front of the oem bonnet there is a rubber seal
on the cf ones there is no holes to mount the seal

im thinking would be better with it or should i just leave it off
there is a small gap now that the seal used to fill

plus im worried about wind under the bonnet ?

anyone done this or ??

You dont 'have' to put the seal back in. If your worried about the gap, you can adjust the height with the latch on the car its self. Think they are 10mm bolts. Move the latch down a bit and the gap will get smaller. There are also rubbers on the left and right where the bonnet rests, you can also adjust these to adust the height. Good luck

Sorry for the quick response, but gotta catch a train.

hehe thanks

i adjusted it down as far as it can do before the latch hits the frame
there isnt really much of a gap but it was a tight seal with the rubber there

Hey Leroy, theres this thread as well. This guy had a simular problem as you:

Yeh, like I was saying, and I did end up missing my train. You don't need the rubber seal, but of course then you want the bonnet to close as much as possible for obvious reasons. Theres not much you can do if you cant adjust the latch anymore, unless you modify the latch.

All bonnets fit different, different quality etc.

Hope you sort it out.

If you can't get the right fit without putting the top of the bonnet out of wack, go for pins, they r a mean look!

you must have the same problem i had, a small gap around the edge at the front corners of the bonnet, if your really careful you can take of the oem rubber and clips and drill some holes in the CF bonnet and refit it, care no to drill through though

mate it fits alot better when u have the rubber there. when i installed mine, without the rubber seal it rubs onto the grill and rubs paint off due to vibration and it was slightly wonky to one side. luckily i had a spare rubber bonnet seal and used tape to stick it on, and my bonnet fits perfect now!!! also closing it feels much better as u dont have to worry abt it slamming against ur bumper

this is the exactly why my cf hood is still in my living room lol

but lerroy...i was thinkin of really gettin some 3M rubber thingy to stick to the edges, careful if you're gonna take out the existing one cause if the car is old the rubber will tear when you're trying to take it out...if you're fussy...buy brand new ones and cut out the existing clips and glue em on

hey Jin

um yeah i have already take the rubber mount off just now was a bit tough but no tears

yeah the tough part is mountingit i dont wanna drill...
take is just a bit dodgey 3m might be alright
maybe some good glue or glue gun still thinking i just washed the rubber to get a good contact

ill see how it goes

i originally used 3m double sided tape but with the heat under ur engine bay the glue becomes less sticky over time.. so try double sided tape, and some black gaffa tape on the top if u got some lying around! cheers

Go for some Araldite mate, it's a two stage epoxy, looks like it's in a syringe with two chambers, each with a diff. colour liquid in them. DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE OR ANY OTHER CHEAP 'TARZAN' GRIP, THEY WILL EAT THROUGH THE RUBBER!!!!!!!

Squirt a bit of the liquid (it pumps equal amounts of each at the same time) onto the surface you want to stick, let it go tacky (sticky) for about two minutes, then adhere the seal. This stuff is rated to like 1.6tonne so that seal aint going nowhere!!!!!

Available at any hardware store!

Hope this helps!

You really must put this rubber strip in. People (in the states) have had bonnets POP/unclip at high-speed, cause the air got under 'em. Bonnet Pins are a must at the track for this reason.

I had to redrill all the holes as well as trim-down the clips. Because the CF is ten times thicker than the thin steel sheet they're made to go through. But all good now....But I still haven't done my Bonnet pins.

Just do-it right the first time, I mean, Glue. :thumbdwn: , talk about Getto.

air is gonna get under it man even with my ghetto glue job and even with your drill job
if it happens it happens

im will not put bonnet pins in im sorry but i just hate the look..and thats why i got the bonnet

the bonnet i have is not full carbon its carbon fibre with fibreglass not really that much lighter...maybe if i track it ill consider
