I have removed stacks of heads ( lost count )
Never. I mean Never had a problem removing or fitting head bolts. I was tought well from some experienced people at the time of my apprenticeship and I payed attention.

as long as you clean the threads of your bolts, oil them, replace dodgey bolts, clean out your holes with compressed air before fitting the bolts you shouldnt have any problems.

ok so basically lube them up before putting them back in...

and follow torque specs exact according to service manual?

Use a breaker bar to remove head bolts, the bar is about 60cm long or so. If you only have a regular 1/2" drive ratchet, buy the corect tools.

make sur ethe engine is sturdy and wont move! if it is on the ground, an assistant is helpful.

that will ensure all the torque you are applying is in the right direction.

it is a slut to drill out a head bolt.

also make sure your socket is good, if it is slighty worn, guy buy a new quality brand one.

and a small/normal breaker bar with 50cm extension (piece of steel pipe) is the trick.

hope this helps :)
