how do i know if mine needs replacing?

i have a d15b that i got from a wreckers and i'm gonna replace the pump

i've spoken to this guy who is selling some gear from his d15b and i wanted to buy his water pump

his engine has been out for about 6 weeks so i wanted to know

should i take his one? or buy a new one?

if i do take a look at his pump, how will i know if its good or bad?

your water temp is higher than usual?? if so it could be that the pump is not pumping water through to cool down the engine....

this was the advice i was given

Water pump has probably been sitting without any water behind it, so they rust out and will snap off the impeller(bit that turns the water). You won't know any different until it gets really hot, really quick and could cook your motor if your not watching your temp gauge. I would not risk it and they are a pain to change when the engine is in the car.

if the engine is out take the time to replace everything you can IMO. Cheaper now and piece of midn to replace all gaskets/ belts / water pump :) Rather than get tight on a 2nd hand unit with XXX k's left on it !

I wouldn't buy a second hand water pump. Just buy one new.

just get a new pump, like Wyn says

Id rather get a non gen pump than a 2nd hand one, you just dont know it's condition.

Call up Honda spare parts on Monday or post something up in the WTB forum.

Pumps are under 100 bucks - while your at it, get a new timing belt and install it before the engine goes in - also check for leaks on the crank's rear seal next to the flywheel - if it's leaking, fix it now and replace the front/sump seal at the same time.

I plan on replacing the rear main seal

So your saying I should do the oil sump seal also?

I also plan to do the water pump, camshaft seal, crankshaft seal, timing belt, IM gaskeet and exhaust gasket.

Anything else you reckon i should change?

Is OEM the only way to go?
It's obviously the best way but would any non-oem parts be the same?

Lets say you don't go OEM....and you have a leak. You're going to have to rip it all apart again and change it.

non-oem is still good quality stuff and as this is an import engine, Honda would not even have a parts reference on the engine number.

More expensive than regular WP1130 water pump used in D15B4 & D15B7 motors, requires a WP3062 water pump to suit the D15Z1 block used on the D15B VTEC motors. Expect around $100+ retail price.

so the d15z water pump fits the d15b also?
