DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 12:54 PM
yeah I like shadow myself ... wanted to see what everyone else thought

also getting them with 205/40/17 tyres ... now have to pick what brand (the guy selling the wheel is selling Nankang .. but my mates tell me these are rock hard ... so dunno ... since I am gettin coilovers also and going from 15 to 17 ... dont want to add more hard-ness to the ride) ...

thoughts? :?

17"s will look awesome...............in black..........*drool*

but im not sure if those splits pieces are wide enough to give you an aggressive look........the ones from the centre to the edge. just a thought.

just on side note hope u realise that the car wont go anywhere quick with the biggers wheels but then agian u can always wack on the old wheels for track days or what ever.

12-03-2004, 01:06 PM
how much are they?

Toby
12-03-2004, 01:07 PM
the shadow ones would look nice with your black car, but so would the gold ones. there is jusk something about gold rims on a black cars :D

civicboy
12-03-2004, 01:12 PM

DarkCoupe

$1400 for a set of 17x7 4x100 with 205 40 R17 tyres (Nankang brand)

cheap u think? maybe we can get a discount if a few people buy with me ;) :P :D

Toby
12-03-2004, 01:13 PM
but yeah my vote goes to the shadow rims, you could allways photo chop the rims on your car ;)

edit: that is a good price for 17s with rubber

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 01:14 PM
heheh ... true true ...

civicboy: I am gettin Teins SS with pillowball uppermounts

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 01:31 PM
what are Teins setting you back??

they are IMO expensive for suspension, but quite a bargain as far as Tein Coilovers ...

$2000 fitted with Pillowball mounts (obviously less without pillowball mounts, but I prefer to replace em... goin from rubber mounts to metal ones  ... more hardcore) ;)

IMO, silver or white go with anything, bronze for black, blue or white, shadow for lighter colours...

12-03-2004, 02:22 PM
Yeah that is a good buy!!

so what brand are they?

Teggy-Vtir
12-03-2004, 03:20 PM
Gold would look nice =)
my opinion =)

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 03:22 PM
Yeah that is a good buy!!

so what brand are they?

Brand is AWA or AVA or something (basically no name ... but I am sure you can tell simply by lookin at price :P)

um ... go to www.ozzytyres.com.au and check out the Ozzy Wheels section, slide number 2

McChook
12-03-2004, 05:14 PM
They are the Ozzy Tyres inhouse wheels. I was looking at the sexy dual 5 spokes they had in there. $1400 with tyres?? Chat him up, bring cash, you'll get them for less than $1300

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 05:30 PM
yeah the dual spoke you are talking about is on slide 3 ... I like em also ... they are a copy of the Lenso Muse wheels.... I reckon the ones on slide 2 look nicer though ;)

he quoted me 1400 for gold and 1500 for shadow ... I reckon I will take cash and ask him to give me some better tyres rather than the rockhard / shitty Nangkangs (prefer Falken or something instead)

luzinit
12-03-2004, 06:36 PM
nice rims, get gold, would look dope on black..
1400 for 17" with tyres.. pretty normal price if u compare it with say LENSO 17" rim packages..

so yeh, try talk it down abit if ur happy with those rims.

may i ask, howcome ur getting 17"? i woulda thought hanging around clubrsx, even thinking about gettin 17" is a sin. haha

DarkCoupe

I am going to put 16s next to the car, and then 17' ... if the 16s look similar then I will get em ...

dude I do what makes me happy ... if clursx guys accept me / don't ... it doesnt really matter all that much ... in the end .. it's my car and if it makes me happy then yeah I will do it :D

What about slide 6, the top far left one...

I just love dark inner black with silver lining.

If not i prefer slide 3 in shadow black compared to slide 2

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 06:42 PM
fark I cant belive you guys reckon that 17" wheels with 17" low pofiles for 1400 is expensive ... how much are they these days ... last year I got a quote for some lenso muse copies with 17" tyres and they guy wouldnt budge below 1600 for cash?!?! :?

its not expensive!
its not really cheap either, just average prices!

yeh thats the right mentality. ur car, do wot u think will make u happy :)

skoota
12-03-2004, 07:31 PM
$1400 for 17's is pretty good. Anywho I voted for Silver - would look best on your balck EM1 for sure!

If you're getting better tyres, don't go for Falkens. I have some and I don't like 'em that much. Yokohama, Hancook or Bridgestone for sure.

joneblaze
12-03-2004, 08:06 PM
Yeah i agree.... $1400 for those nice lookin non showcar rims with decent tyres is quite a good deal.
But i still think a different style rim would look better on ur Civic man...
IMO those rims are a little too "busy"...too many spokes etc..

skoota
12-03-2004, 09:34 PM
Yeh I'd go less spokes - but i still like em.

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 11:07 PM
ok ok ... well .... hmmmm ....

gimme suggestions then ...

oh btw ... some of my friends are tryin to convince me not to waste my money and save up for genuine Volks ... but they are like almost triple the price per rim :? ... but they are lighter, stronger, and probably better quality ...

also, they are suggesting I shouldnt go 17" ... do any people with civics regret going to 17"? if so why?

skoota
12-03-2004, 11:14 PM
Yeh I regret going to 17's on my EK. Make sure, if you haven't already, lower your car. Make sure you get the BEST tyres you can, cos with the lower profiles, I've found you skid more, get less traction etc. especially in the wet - that is with my Falkens. Plus the ride is not as smooth and the wheels are heavier dude. If I had my choice again I would go for 16's. Get Volks or Enkies if you have the money. And I would go for either 5 or 6 spoke silver ones dude. That's from my experience - my handling has sufferred quite a bit due to this. And lest we forget, each time you need to replace ur tyres you have to pay a f*ckload!

Also if you wanna be a real ricer, get ur callipers painted red - they would look sick with silver rims and a black em1 :P

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 11:28 PM
hmmm ... 17" look nice though :? :(

hmm ... what if I can get genuine volks which in 17" form weight the same as my current 15" stock wheels? do you reckon that'd be ok?

anyone recommend some good sporty street tyres that they have used and loved ... and arent too $$$$ hmm?

luzinit
12-03-2004, 11:48 PM
darkcoupe; what about buddyclub rims??
lightweight as well, not as light as volks, but still!

P1's are nice! but its about 1400 just for the rims, no tyres!

if u like the lenso rims, afaik, they're about 1450 at BIG O TYREs, with tyres!

DarkCoupe
12-03-2004, 11:50 PM
yeah I like the P1s also ... (I wish I could get PIIs though :P)

who in Sydney sells P1s ..

also someone give me some thoughts on decent well priced tyres!!

Toby
13-03-2004, 03:28 AM
mmm buddyclub rims there sweet, my friend had a set on his R33 black car and the rims where a dark gold colour looked tuff as :D

DarkCoupe
13-03-2004, 12:29 PM
ozzytyres ... they are pretty good I have heared...

SOME HELP ON TYRE CHOICE PLEASE!! :P

Ironfist
13-03-2004, 02:24 PM
It's up to you.

But what i'm getting from your post is that you like looks over performance (17" on a civic) so stuff what your friends say about getting volks unless you want performance.

Slide 3 in shadow! they look like ferrari rims :)

But forget what i suggest, it seems like your mind is already set but you just want ppl to give you support on your purchase. There's no point getting somthing everyone else likes if you don't like it... it's on your car at the end of the day :)

ps Slide 3 in shadow :P

DarkCoupe
13-03-2004, 02:38 PM
yeah I like slide 3 too ... my mate had those ... I dont want to be a copy cat ...

the 17" forged wheels are almost the same weight as my currect cast 15" stock factory wheels ... but the $$ is the thing so if I want performance+looks I have to wait a couple more months before I can consider gettin em

or I can just go for the cast 17" at the begining of this thread and pay less and ... um ... yeah :P

SiR
13-03-2004, 03:13 PM
As much as I like the dark shadow colour, I'd probably choose the silver cos the dark ones would make your car really dark, if that makes any sense :) The bronze ones would look good too, but I've never been a fan of bronze rims so I say go silver! :D

Btw, when you lower your car, make sure the rear gets lowered more than the front. Say for e.g. you lower 2" at the front, get 3" at the rear. I made the mistake of going 2" f & r and now the rear looks slightly raised compared to the front!

DarkCoupe
13-03-2004, 03:33 PM
as long as my side skirts are parrallel with the flat road ... I guess it's ok ... right? I'll leave up to the experts ath the suspension centre ( am gettin coilovers as well so I will do all this in 1 hit)

SiR
13-03-2004, 03:49 PM
What I mean is that on the rear, the gap between the top of the tyre and the guard is bigger than at the front. So for e.g. if you lower 2" at the front, you'll probably need to lower the rear by 3" to get the same 'lowered' effect or the gap between the top of the tyre and the guard to be the same.

Since you're getting coil-overs, you should be ok I guess.

I only lowered my car with coil springs.

nope sorry

fusion_VTi
13-03-2004, 07:59 PM
hey bro photochop them onto your car or at least get someone else too. In my opinion go the gold rims followed by the shadowchrome, they'd look sick and dont worry bout them bein too big 17's will sit in your guards niceley if you lower it a few inches :P

DarkCoupe
13-03-2004, 08:55 PM

14-03-2004, 06:31 PM

tanghy
15-03-2004, 03:49 PM
http://www.tein.co.jp/img/ss1.jpg

these are coilovers
notice the threads which allow you to compress the spring to raise and lower car

http://www.tein.co.jp/img/flex1.jpg

more expensive ones which allow to raise and lower car w/o compressing springs

tanghy
15-03-2004, 03:49 PM
not to forget they have rigid upper mounts & damper adjustment

but decent, 16" lightweight genuine jap wheels (sure it's more dollas but end of the day... I am more of a performance guy than a bling bling boy ... not that there's anything wrong with that btw ;))

why is it that drivability will be compromised with 17's ?

I thought that the car would be easier to handle with 17s ?

LatinoHatchCrap
18-03-2004, 08:53 AM
i wouldnt get 17's...your car will drive will crap and it will look like a 4wd. 16's at the most IMO  my .02

oops sorry i thought it was an EG ;) yeah 17s would look ok. But why dont just keep your VTIR rims and get them powder coated the colour you want? you can then use the rest of the money to buy some semi-comp tyres. Your car will then handle 100 times better than if you get heavy-ass 17s with cheap-shitty tyres (unless you can afford good tyres in the 17" profile). IMO your wasting $$$ by buying decent coilovers and changing to heavier wheels and not getting good enough tyres.

Note: good tyres in 17" profile will at least cost 350-450 a pop. LOL azenis in 15" profile cost 200-230

McChook
