View Full Version : Finally gave my Euro a good trashing ...

After driving within 5,000rpm for the first 2,000km, I've finally given the car a bit of a whipping. I have to say, this is one well sorted car!! The drivetrain is sooo smooth right up to redline. Not only that it sounds very nice. I can't believe this is a 4 cylinder engine. My V6 Camry simply isn't any smoother. And of course, it handles a million times better than the Camry. I am just so glad I bought this car!! :D :D :D
get a C.A.I, and itll sound a heap better :D
dump it + some rims, look heaps better too! hmm, yours is 05 model, so you already got nice rims! drop it like its hot

05 standard doesn't get the 17". But it's only for the look. Once you drop it using only springs, the handling changes.
But I agree! I'll take this inline4 anytime over a Camry/Commodore/Falcon/380 V6! :D

If only they would put the Accord's 3.0 V6 in the Euro.

No way - there is a reason why it is 4 cyl and one of the reasons why the Euro is such a balanced car in terms of handling. More weight over the front wheels is a bad thing - especially for front wheel drive.
The Acura TSX data book (i'll see if I can find it - something like 90meg) explains that 4 cyl was a deliberate choice for these reasons.
U can really feel the power surge at 6000+ rpm.
The euro is about 1500kg. Imagine if it was a 1300kg car instead. :D

Base 6mt is 1360kg to 1395kg (depending on which Honda brochure you read)
Ah yes.... the Euro lux is 1415kg. Dunno why I was thinking 1500'ish.

Thought you brought it second hand? Ferrarista?

Yeah also depends on which brochure you read - 6mt lux is 1415 to 1430. The auto lux would be getting close to 1500 though + 35 kg to above ranges.

No way, brand spanking new. I guarantee i was the last person to pick up a Euro in 2004, i picked it up at 4pm on the 31/12/04

Can't be good if the car isn't warmed up yet?

make that 3.
When i picked up my euro, it had 9km on it.
I tried to follow the mototune way of breaking in the engine. It said that the first 20km was very important.
so i picked it up, drove down the Old pacific highway. Once it got up to temperature(slightly below half on the temp gauge) i was redlining it in 2,3,4 gear. Did about 70km of twisties, 30km of Highway(keeping the rpm above 5k in mainly 2nd and 3rd gear and 4th gear on the highway). before i headed back home.
And i redlined it pretty often during my 1st 1000kms, trying to break it in.
im running at 1400kms now...and i shift around 3krpm.
how far does a full tank last you guys?
Im in a standard Manual and i do around 480kms for the full tank.

I give it some squirt every time I drive the Euro :) Just love the sound of VTEC, haha!
My Euro fuel economy really depends on my style of driving. I can get 600km for a tank with mainly highway driving to around 100km or less on 1/4 of a tank (or less than 400km for full tank) when I'm up doing some mountain driving and keeping my RPM 4000+.

480 is spot on for city driving and hitting VTEC every now and then. Country roads expect 700kms

Depends a lot on the throttle you apply rather then the RPMs. If you are in 6th gear 2000rpm going up a slight incline, it will use more petrol than in 5th gear 2500rpm going up that same incline at the same speed.
Since I am a light foot and I give it full throttle VTEC only once a day, I get 9.5L/100km or roughly 579km before the light comes on.

I waited the 1000kms not pushing it past 5000rpm, only just got into it in the last 2 weeks... feels ok, tbh I'm a little disappointed but it still serves it's purpose well. Just waiting on my house sale then I'll have it lowered/rims/cai then hopefully stop spending on it :)
Fuel consumption - I fill it with 50L each time (I believe it's a 65L tank - never filled it full), and I get 500kms with short bursts of 'spirited' driving prob a few times a day...
I was listening to a radio program that claimed you can get a bit of extra mileage by not filling your tank to the top, I haven't tried the full tank yet though so it's hard to tell.

is there any reasoning behind this?
i might give it a try the next time i fill it up....

I always fill mine to full and refill when it is 1/4 tank, never till the light comes on if I can help it. I got average 8.5L/100km.
Sulley, let us know how you go.

The reasoning behind it was that when it's full, between heat and pressure changes in the tank you lose some fuel out an overflow valve or something along those lines... The guy was talking up to a 10% improvement in consumption.
I think the main reason I don't fill it full is because it's just so depressing paying for a full tank (not that it'll make much difference in the end as to how much fuel I use) but still :p

sulley? u got ur new euro? wat colour

and yeah i get about 500kms on a full tank at city driving.......540 if im lucky
Overflow valve?? Where is the excess petrol flowing to?? Can't be ADR compliant for a car to leak petrol everywhere.. :D

Im not sure that there is any pressure release on the euro. When ever i remove my cap, a shitload of vapour/fumes/pressure is released.

That's my euro not sulleys ;)
Re: The pressure valve, I have nfi, I really can't remember the details. It would stand to reason that the fuel will turn to vapour at certain temps, whether this causes it to increase in volume or decrease I'm not sure. Either way there needs to be some sort of release valve in case the pressure built up is greater than the tank can handle.

ahhh thrashing, mine gets one every time I get in it! get's a bit boring driving a rodeo around all day long.
The only gripe I've got is that it hits redline too early, if only it was 500 higher it would carry the revs thru nicely to the next gear and be right in the sweet spot rather than dying every time u change.
