Just wondering if there are any in-car dvd players that can play divx/avi/mpg etc files?

From what I have seen they have not released any in-car DVD System that are DivX compatable. I've heard that by mid next year they will be releasing it.

Not sure if you can get it here, but you can always buy one from overseas, also, AM tuner may not work properly

dont think there is any on the AUS market, you have to convert it to dvd format before playing. Or else you have to go oversea and buy one...as far as i've seem none of the aus ,market plays dvix, mpeg....

I'd be tempted to pick up a small laptop instead - grab one with a 12" or smaller screen and you could use it as the screen if you wanted by getting some sort of mounting bracket on the passenger side, or else hide it away in the glove box, and use the tv-out/dsub out to your existing in dash screen...
Brand new, the apple iBooks in 12" seem to be the best value at ~$1599, or just keep your eyes out for a cheaper s/h one :)

that's quite an expensive set up....but sure would be cool
thanks for that ebay link MIRZ i might look into it. for $200 even if something goes wrong with it after a year, it might be worth giving it a go
find a multimedia player that hasa massive hdd. and can play DIVX
like the new iriver 20GB one., then connect it to the TV in your car i guess..

Problem solved
Get the current XBOX (its pretty cheap, about 250 at big w) ~ Chip it, about 50 bucks, 250gig HDD, approx 180... run Evolution X and XBOX Media Player, you can play DVD's, DivX, and you also have games galore... PLUS ~ it has DVD drive, remote control option, and it has RCA and Dolby output

i already have an xbox...that i will get chipped soon....but would rather not fuss with keeping it the car/taking it in and out...especially with summer upon us. but hey that iriver idea is awesome! can just unplug it and walk out of the car with it. i assume it comes with all the necessary trinkets for you to plug into an AV-In on the in dash screen?
yeh. you can just remove it. remove and walk out of car.. its pretty good. i dont know the quality of it when you display it on a screen.. but its possible to output the video onto a big TV SCREEN. i bought one for a family member last week. heres the link
