Are Stock D16y8 Rods Safe to 8000 Rpm?

some people say they are. I wasnt game enough to try it though. ROds are weak, RPMS are high and RS ratio isnt the best. THis all equals stress.

THat said, i have heard of ppl running 8500+ on stock engines everyday. WOuld i do it? No. But it can be done if u have the balls. That said, it might last a day, it might last a week, but when it goes, u'll need a new bottom end :)

look at it this way... the rods are basically the weakest link in the d series
also, the d series has a pretty long stroke, making reving it higher not the safest of ideas

further more, why would you even want to rev it that high? not like the engine is going to be making more power

i really would think so...the stock redline of cxi is 7800...i used to run boosted 7 psi for yrs with stock internals for years with no problem (or not yet at least )

but then again...ppl say that d16 rod is not that strong...but you wont run high rpm all the time anyway so go figure haha

What he said :)

I'd be going down the safe track and replacing them with something nice and meaty

Crower Cam, Gear, Springs and Ti Retainers are on there way. Cam makes peak power at +7500. So I want to tak it to at least 7800Rpm.

the D-series rods .hmmm

if u take a look at them compared to integra rods they are quite skinny in construction,

Generally .. these rods become marginal after 7500 RPM or 200hp, whatever comes first ..

the cheap alternative to getting all out race rods.. would be to get a b18b rod.. and fitting it with some minor mods..

the small end needs to be rebushed... to take a smaller wrist pin//
and the big end also needs to be milled .. to the same thickness as the D series rod.

these are good for 300hp .. and 8500 rpm..
of course .. u can alsways go for polishing of the beams and shotpeening..
hope this helps. hehe ..

getting aftermarket rods - crower etc.. would be a much better alternative to modifying B18 rods. not only would the cost of doing this most likely equal or exceed aftermarket rods but by modifying the stock rods you compromise their structural integrity.
if you going to change the rods might as well do it properly
