Every 20,000kms i THINk is normal maintenence....

And, an actual OEM honda item should be no more than $45.00 - the best way to make sure is to buy honda parts ;)

But , if you oftern use different fuels ( IE premium and unleaded etc) - its adviseable that u change ur fuel filter sooner rather than later.

I change my fuel filter every 5000kms with my oil change.
Generic one should cost you like $10, my mechanic said the Honda would be just under $30 but he couldn't get it for me in time so he threw on a generic one.

5,000klm?? You.....I wont say. Nah its normaly 40,000klm for my dc2R, and it should cost around $30, and there is no good or bad filter they are all the same and do the same job and not much "rocket science" behind it

Well I haven't been servicing my car myself, I've been going to a few different mechanics and each one changes the oil filter. I'll prob stick with the mechanic i go to now so i won't be changing it as often.

there is nothing wrong with changing everything every 5,000km

Yes for the Oil filter, but for the fuel filter (provided you use decent fuel) every 5,000kms is overkill and a waste of money IMO.

Buy a PiperCross, or K&N
clean both using the K&N Cleaning kit. Clean and oil K&N every 15,000kms, Pipercross every 30-40,000kms

my car has 310,000kms and i havent changed it once. Well not since i got it at 160,000kms lol Could that be a cause of bad fuel consumption?

I've just changed mine not long ago... got an extra 70-80km per tank after it... so itz worth it. Costed around 45bux for a Ryco one. Remember to release the pressure from the fuel system before you undo the filter.

guys: thanks for the help... i plan on replacing mine as soon as i can.

I've been thinking about getting an "aftermarket" fuel filter... apparently they are reusable and also look ricey. but they are like 150 bucks i've heard. heh.

i've been getting about 400km out of my tank before fuel light (b16a). Maybe i'll get more after too!! yay!!

weezer: would u be able to tell me wat filter u bought, from where and how muchies? thanks

Where is the fuel filter on an EG?

Near the powersteering resevoir.

I had a pic somewhere but lost it..........basically look at the left of the fuel rail (facing the car from the front) and follow the hose that goes from there........taht leads to the fuel filter.

I changed mine on my 1.5 carb 87 civic last week, I paid $13 for a honda factory filter for my car - so the price shouldn't be much more than that
