hey this is gonna be anotha newbie question, and im not sure if im supposed to post here or not, so sorry to the mods in advance.
I've heard people talkin bout their vtecs 'poppin' and 'screaming' off when they're gunning it down the highways and stuff.

i just wanted to know if that actually happens, and what makes it happen? hehe coz it seems pretty cool and i wanna hear my vtec pop too :p

Any replies are much appreciated! Cheers!

type in "engine" and read how that works. then while your at it.. read on VTEC and Turbo/Super Chargers

you will find that when vtec engages, more air is flowing into your motor at hgiher RPM.. and this is what i guess makes that "screaming"

Ive never driven a Honda with a vtec engine, Im aware of how it all works, but are you saying its much the same 'scream' to the induction of a turbo car? (obviously less noticable)

VTEC is awesome, in my B16A you can feel the change over, the power surges (peak power arrives in the 7000 rpm range) the engine sounds like it opens up, and the noise is aural pleasure.

With the stock air box and exhaust, you can hear the cross over to the Longer duration/higher lift cam lob. When you get an aftermaket intake it really opens up the roar at cross over and on. It really sounds awsome. With an aftemarket exhaust, some people can hear a poping sound over the cross over point.

The reason why it happens is your going from a mild cam crossing over to a Hotter/more wild/aggressive cam. This high cam like I said opens the valves for a longer period and a higher lift which gives the typical screaming sound of a Vtec motor.

With a Turbo Vtec motor, you sort of loose that open intake roar, due to all the pumbing and intercooler ect which I miss an NA form. But I have also noticed in the past a poping sort of noise out the exhaust at the cross over point.

it can be, when i used to have only intake mods and stock exhaust it was an absolute screamer when the vtec kicked in. Ive drivin stock b16a cars that made hardly any noise at the vtec crossover. just depends on your intake setup.

good read

Had it in my Fav's the day I got my VTi

SOHC VTec turns you engine into a DOHC by cheating a putting a second cam lob on top of the main one allowing for two cam profiles

So did that mean DOHC VTec has 4 cam's???? hehehe

d/l this buddy...

it is an accord with ITB's. Your EG in no way will sound like this or another b or h series engine with its vtec crossover. But it is an awsome video and is a perfect example of VTEC.

Listen to the engine, it all of a sudden screams, now thats what we call VTEC :D :D :D

My EG VTi doesn't pop, nor does it scream... but it would if I got a pod filter!
As fusionVTi said, it depends on your intake setup.

Mine is completely stock so it doesn't scream, but the vtec definitely changes the note of the engine. Sounds fantastic when I hit 4,5 and then it has this throaty scream all the way to 7,3. Then you pull another gear and do it all over again! :D :D
