Hi All,

i just bought a '02 DC5 Integra Type R and wandering which brand of intake you guys have used and recommend for the DC5?

Has anyone got the Mugen Intake kit? Its pretty expensive, but its Mugen so should improve performance.

Spoon seems to recommend keeping the stock air box and just changing the filter inside to their Spoon filter or something more high-flow. Is this true? Should i just change the filter and keep the stock air box, or should i go a pod filter type setup?

I'd be interested to hear what you fellow DC5R owners have got in your cars.

Kevin

An Injen CAI is a good intake for dc5r...from what ive heard

depends on how much u want to spend.....

money not an issue - gruppe M or Mugen if u have an aftermarket front bar with the air intake slot

bang for buck - injen CAI or AEM CAI

or u can just grap the MUGEN filter, that will help a bit.
but for a NA car like DC5, i think is worth the $$ to spend on the whole air intake kit if u really lookin at performance. cos a few DC5 i saw that appeared in the speed or asm mags, they all have mugen air intake kit. i guess that tells u something...

If you have 600 bucks go and get Injen CAI, if you have 900 bucks get the Mugen Air box mate.the best one, but also the most expensive one.

This would be the obvious thing to read:

It is written by someone who has built some awesome Tegs so he actually knows what he is talking about....

I would rather spend the money and get the Mugen kit. But as FunkyR mentioned you need a aftermarket front bar for this. Is this true?

If i just get an Apexi pod filter will i lose performance? I've heard bad things about pods and Integras.

u dont need an aftermarket front bar, but without it ur not getting the full potential out of the mugen

the mugen snorkel ends up sucking air from just above the radiator

Well the decision is made then! Mugen it is!

Thanks for your advice guys!

jz a simple question, which bit is the "front bar" of the car?

FunkyR

Oh yeah a few more things:

An intake does make a difference but dont expect anything too huge....

I have a dyno from the Mugen catalog for DC5R - the Mugen intake on a JDM DC5R with the Mugen front bar for the ram air effect made 4PS at the flywheel.

I have another article (from HyperRev Integra no 77 vol 3) where they dynoed a JDM DC5R with a J's racing header and exhaust already on and it made 8.9PS at the flywheel. But keep in mind the mods might have allowed more potential for gains from the intake....

Oh yeah, dont believe the US guys claiming 24whp from the AEM / Injen CAI.... What a load of !@#%@! :D

but with the addtion of the end exhaust only (mugen) does that help with the power gain? or jz for the look and the sound?

mugen is not everything, u might be better offf getting a custom pipe with an apexi air filter.

keep your 900 and buy a k&n and put it in your standard box and make up your own CAI, thats wat i did instead of paying 100+$$ only cost me 15 from bunnings, and has same effect

If your gonna create a beast or want the best of the best well go out and get the mugen, but otherwise get something else

dont get an apex SRI - I've seen 2 seperate dynos now and they both lost power or made jack all difference....

I would go either Gruppe M or Injen CAI

i heard that the Mugen airbox dosent garantee a gain??? I believe that it acutally says that on the website....the Ingen seems to be the best one from what ive seen!!!

FunkyR

Mmm I think the difference is that Mugen are more conservative and Injen more out spoken. Mugen has a heap more R&D than Injen.

What do you guys mean by SRI? I know CAI is cold air induction, but SRI??

FunkyR
15-11-2005, 03:13 PM

Gruppe M is the one to go or I still stick with OEM airbox with KN filter.

how washable and reusable are KN filters? I read that they are washable but for there price wouldn't it better to just buy a new one? I mean spoon yes you would go to the effort of cleaning and reusing, any other comments appreciated as I need a new filter soonish...
