referring to my 6spd box in the DC5R.. not sure if anyone else has the same prob. bought it new bout 1.5 months ago. NO, I haven't dragged it or done stupid burnouts or anything else. More noticeable when gearbox is cold.. 2nd gear is really notchy when trying to shift into it. other gears slide in easily.
Is that a normal 'honda thing'?
cheers.
don't know if it's normal but it's notchy on my car as well (gen 3 crx)
wrx's as well, heh not that that is exactly relevant =)

ok thanks! well, I had a wrx before the honda and yes 2nd gear was notchy.. come to think of it, all the gears were!! =)
I heard changing the gearbox oil may help but it's not a real issue to me at this stage.. just wondering if I may just have bad luck!

In that case I had same prob but with my 5th gear. It crunched into 5th and the solution was to change the transmition oil. The previous owner but engine oil into the trany, you can do that but only for emergencies because its different thikness I think. Maybe thats the prob in your case, but I doubt because its well almost brand new.
2nd gear notchynss is a very honda thing. I know a heep of civics with the same complaints. It has its good days, and its bad. Once the box is warmed up, its usualy all good though.

this is not a ten year old civic weq :D
the fact that the car is only 1.5months old, i would take it straight back to honda and complain :x
i have personally driven a 12month old dc5r, it had no problems at all, it's one of the smoothest gearboxes around!!

I have that exact problem, 2nd feels better to get into once it warms up.
alot of ppl have the 'problem'. Basically its just a honda gearbox thing. Once the oil gets upto temps its all good, but it can be 'harder' to get into gear then others, espically when its cold. It doesnt crunch or anything, just takes a bit more effort. Wynode has the same problem and his gearbox has even had a rebuild.
I don't think it's a problem so much as a design decision. I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure 2nd gear is the one that gets stressed the most so it's a bit beefier than the other gears and has less movement, locks in a bit harder etc etc.
*grins*
anyone have an actual technical opinion or am i just dribbling ? =)

hmm.. thanks guys for the input. ok so a few ppl here get it as well so I guess it's a 'honda thing'!! :D:D
yeh, it's really notchy esp when cold but after driving around for a while and it gets warmed, then it's much easier.

seriously mate, with a 2 month old car, it should slip into 2nd gear all by itself with a breeze of wind!!
especially a dc5r box, they are the smoothest box you will find
Take it to the dealer and damand a new box :) new car warrenty i suppose..!

Dont worry about the notchy shift from 1st-2nd in DC5...
Dc5 is well known for it.. :?
However once the car is warmed up, the shift is sweet.. :D
