Are there any re Earthing kits bouncing around the market?
A good friend re earthed his '96 VTi-R hatch himself(proffesional audio installer) and said he cant believe the improvements just from reterminating and rerunning all his earth cables with 8 and 4 gauge cables.
Anyone else back this up?

If your current (no pun intended) earth isnt up to scratch...then yes....you may notice the difference.

just look at your grounding wires, if they look shitty, upgrade them
you will notice brighter headlights and smoother idling

On american sites there are HKS grounding kits for for 100 - 150 USD.
Don't know if it's worth getting big brand name ones, aren't they just 8 gauge wires ?

2 ways
buy a kit
or
upgrade your stock grounding wires to super thick ones
both ways will see improvements

My mate just did it himself using:
Set of really good crimps
Terminations
and 4 and 8 gauge cable
too easy

hehe
thats exactly what i did this arvo !
i got my mate to cut me some red coated 4AWG OFC from a car stereo shop and i whacked them on.
havent tested it yet.
I only did the one off the rocker cover - near the belts to the headlight, and the other from the tranny to the wheel arch.
cost: $5 for 2x 25cm lengths with connectors :)

How does re-earthing makes more power? Just curious...

Copper is only slightly less conductive than gold
for the price factor i think id stick with Olde mate copper

Nick, it DOESNT make MORE power...
it just makes the earth system less un-efficent and this means slightly better performacne IF and ONLY IF your grounding system is actually un-efficent...
which i might suggest is NOT something Honda would actually do.
if they could improved performance by making hte grounds better THEY WOULD HAVE...
$150 grounding kit = RICE
DIY grounding kit = clever thinking

I'll think i'll prefer DIY.
This 8 and 4 gauge is the same as audio cable ?
tinkerbell
18-03-2004, 08:40 AM
yeah, use 8ga for the rocker covere and 4ga for the gearbox link.
parts can be sourced cheaply from Jaycar Electronics - www.jaycar.com.au
they have the gold connectors (Gold is better NOT because it is better conductor BUT because it resists corrosion better than copper!!)

So is there any noticable difference by just upgrading the above mentioned two grounding cables??
tinkerbell
18-03-2004, 09:27 AM
no - there is no way in the world you will ever notice a difference by upgrading existing Honda wires.
UNLESS the wires are old and/or damaged or deteriorated.

I added 4ga wiring from my battery negative to earth and 8ga from my cam cover to earth. This stopped my headlights from dimming with the stereo up too loud. Note that Honda wiring is already very very good to begin with.
Note that I left my stock earth wires in place as I don't like butchering things. Whe I can be assed I'll take out my battery and fix up the rest of the earth points.

i have a hot4's artical on earth wiring. from memory it did make a power increase of some stupidly small number like 1-3kw at the wheels(dont ask me how or why). i'll try and find it. but i think the real gain is for the in car entertainment people with massive ams and subs etc. and if u are going to do it DIY it theres no point paying 300 bucks for HKS cables :?

Checked out the cable from the battery to the chasis and it looks pretty phat.
But upgraded the cam cover one:
