alright,

i just got an opportunity to pretty much get a replacement engine into my CRX.
its a D16A3 coming out of a DA9 (old school teg) twin cam non vtec.

it has been reconditioned not so long ago and the good thing is that it has been bored and stroked to 1.8L and has an aftermarket computer to go with

the question is, will this be a straight swap into my little gen2 crx (D16A8) with no drama?

will it have the same engine mounts, gearbox and so forth?

me need answers ASAP

Thanx..

cant say if it will be a straight swap, coz there are a few things you need to pay attention to. like

- the braket on the front of the engine the holds the front engine mount. no doubt you can take it of your old engine to make it fit your current mounts, you can always use your exsisting gearbox as well if the otherone wont fit.

WHOA... good that you said its been stroked to a 1.8... cos the D16A3 is a Browntop ZC which has less power than a blacktop - well not much by a bit.. 118/122 compared with 126/130.

Ive got a D16A3 in my Silver gen1 CRX.

yeah - there is a difference in the mount points...

DA Tegs came with various motors, including DOHC and DOHC B16As.

some did swaps also from a ROVER as ROVER used thesame motors, which were the D16A3s - 1st ZCs.

if you decide not to do it get the engine and ill buy it off of you for more than what you pay for it. Do you live in sydney? I can pick it up off of you too.
I know that swapping 2nd gen crx motors into a first gen teg is a pain because it has different mounts so it would probably be the same going the other way.

yeah bro... the silver CRX already had the D16 in there factory fitted.

I recon if you can get it for next to nothing do it... you can always boost it if anything... not often do you get a D16 bored and stroked to a 1.8L with an ECU too.
!!!

Do it!

mate, i reckon it should be ok..

try out www.g1teg.org (http://www.g1teg.org) for more info about first generation integras

my reasoning is that i guess there isnt much different between the d16a3 and a8 from the crx.. so i guess u would have spare mounts etc lying around..

what i would investigate is see what is needed to put a ZC in a gen1 integra.. (check the g1teg forums)
and see what is needed to put a ZC in a gen2 crx..

therefor see if there are any major differents, ie mount wise etc..

edit: just checked this thread:
http://www.g1teg.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=7532
From that they say Civic ZC's have different mounts then a Integra ZC..
i am guessing the mounting arrangements would be different.. bla

the D16A3s would have come in the old Tegs and old CRXs. D16A3s are regarded as the Brown Top ZCs. they have less HP compared to the D16A8/BlacktopZCs due to their compression ratios being slightly lower.

Mounts were also different as the Chassis were different - gen1 CRX/Tegs vs gen2 CRXs/Civics.

generally speaking someone replacing a D16A8 with a D16A3 would be going backwards for power and performance. But in this scenario - the 1.8L stroked engine is probably a wicked Bonus!

I found some information that may help you to get this engine into your car.

They are for the opposite of what you are doing (1st gen tegs are the same as 3rd gen civics) and say that you should be able the use your current tranny and axles but will need to mod the front engine mount and thats it.

Hope this helps

snoop,
Don't write off the D so easily dawg. Granted, performance parts might be a little harder to source, but overall the D16 is *still* a damn good platform for the crx.
