all the boys with a vtir civic said they get about 450-500km from a tank of fuel. answer me this why does an EG civic hatch with the b16a swap use less fuel. its sitting on 420km and the needle is just below half. im pretty sure is got a piggy back system. can some shed some light on this. James maybe, cos i think its all in the tuning

dunno if anyone else has noticed but the EG fuel gagues go up and down like a yoyo. It might also have something to do with the way they drive and the way you've been driving. the EG's are lighter and yeah with that ECU you wouldn't requie as much power to get going. less throttle input less consumption for the same results??? dunno thats how it works with planes.

i can tell you my mate just got that car, so i know he has been decking it since he got it. the fuel gauge on the ek move like a yoyo at well

the EG weigh's less than your EK. and most B16 conversions done into an EG will have meant that the engine will be checked over thoroughly. Meaning that there would be no point in putting in a knackered engine. Usually this means your engine can do a few more k's to the tank. I know my falcon certainly can do more than the norm. for its age on LPG :D (Could be because the head was reco'ed and shaved after I cracked it ROFL) <-- ahh he r0x

speaking of fuel I had to piss myself tonight on the MCCR cruise... when all the FPV fords and SS comos had to stop for fuel half way round and i was still on my $10 (at $105.7 per lt :O) hahaha suckers. Idiots just sat at every set of lights reving the crap out of there cars... looked kool though coz the torque was rocking the car nicly... something rarly seen in a honda :(

i was at GPs today and charli said theres a fuel saver on the car. its looks like a silver cigar tube thats connected to the fule line just before the fuel rail. il try to take a pic and post it. 600km from a tank. im definately getting one.

ive been getting 400km from my tank then the light comes on...

will have to try changing my fuel filter =\

yeah i notice on my eg that the fuel pin moves up and down too, its annoying cos i dunno exactly how much fuel is left, so im too paranoid bout pushing till the light goes on. so ppl with egs get 500km out of their tanks?? the most i've got is like 410 and the light didn't go on

Anyone post some figures for an EK? Ive been getting between 380-430. (Only filled up 3 times :))

But its kinda weird coz ive filled the car making it overflow twice thinking that im filling my berlina where after the click it can take a bit more. The civic wont take anymore after 2 clicks, starts overflowing.

Ive heard/read that i should be getting 500km easy, is this true ?

Another thing ive noticed is that between 2nd/3rd gear change (auto car) its a kind of a jerk like a bad manual gear change. Its not 'really' that bad but i have noticed it. Is this normal also ?

i put in the "student special" ($15.00 of 98 octane :)) and it usually gets me about 150-200k's.... which is about 500 a tank i guess.

Which is quite strange tho....i drive like a grandma nowdays and the needle fluctuates like a crazy thing - i start the car in the morning with 1/2 a tank (on level ground too) - then after about 15misn in traffic on the way to college - down to about 1/4. Pfft.

yeah mines bs as well
wen i first got my EG didn't know that the fuel light didn't work...
it was in the red and i drove for another 60 kms haha
sorta like the seinfeld episode (high five!)
yeah neway
just wondering how big is the civic EG (Si) fuel tank?

Yeh same thing with me.... sometimes it chews a hell of alot fuel in coldstart... then stays at one spot for the rest of the day.

And itz not necessarily the petrol you use.. but the way you drive. Stop and Start drving and Freeway/Highway Driving is a big difference. Also try keep a constant speed when travelling, if you keep on adjusting your speed with your throttle, it will chew more fuel. And when driving normally try shifting around 2.5K... makes a difference.

if my tank is on half on level ground and if i give it a shot of vtec the fuel gauge drops to 1/4...

i only tend to get about 450 - 500 in my vtir coupe..
but that could be cos i'm a bit of a heavy footed driver :D
haha
when i drove to daylesford, got almost 600 on that tank :D
freeways are good :D

Yeh thats normal... it runs rich at WOT, so itz dumping heaps of fuel.. u'll find that it will go back up again once you ease off...

i dont know how ur getting 600km from a 40lt tank of petrol, i just drove my Vti-R from Vic to Qld and i would be lucky to get 450km to a tank without pegging it. 250 - 300km when trashing the crap out of it.

i drive an EG auto
most i have gotten out of a tank before filling up is ~380 kms
at that point the fuel needle is like ON or BELOW the Empty line and the LOW FUEL indicator light has yet to light up

too afraid to drive any further to test the low fuel indicator
but when i fill up after driving 380 kms it takes ~38L to fill her up
so i should be getting ~450 km on a tank of Shell ULP

does anyone know at what remaining fuel level does the fuel indicator light up?

22-03-2004, 11:07 AM
Hmm..i dunno really..just that by the time i got back, i had already put on 350km and had only gone down to about 2/5ths of the tank..
i was pushing it heaps as well and fanging it around all the country freeways.
no cops was good... :)
but yeah, usual city driving is pretty crap. but i definitely get more than 300 a tank. usually at least 400 and that's not driving lightly :) i like my vtec :D

I'm only getting between 380-420km's out of a full tank of Shell Optimax (which as you guys would know regularly pushes the $1.05 per litre mark). I drive a manual 2003 Civic Gli...EP i think it is?

Anyone else got figure of what their 7th Gen civic gets in regards to fuel economy?

And any tips on getting better fuel ecomony, coz with Optimax I think I should be getting a lil more than 380-420kms per tank? something wrong with the car maybe?

thanks.

ALSO....to add to this futile topic....

the MORE i put in the tank....upon a ratio the MORE i get out of it ?

IE - $10 ( about 10 litres) gets me about 100ks....

but $20 (20 litres) seems to get me about 300-380ks.....

:?:

lol OT but that pic in your sig is awesome bennjamin :D

i filled up with Shell Optimax yesterday so hopefully get more mileage than normal ULP. (Roughly 34.4litres.)

Best ive gotten after filling my car up 4 times is 430kms and the needle is on the empty line, thats driving like a grandpa too coz the cars new too me.

Too scared to go further coz dont wanna be stuck in the middle of the road on the way to work with Sydney drivers giving me the finger, hurling abuse or other things :D

I get about the same as u civex98!

"No VTEC = lots more K's"

Please read my earlier post above before making stupid comments. VTEC kicks in at 5400rpm - I NEVER cruise the freeway at that RPM and I doubt anyone else does either. VTEC never engages unless I back off a gear from 5th @110km/h to overtake.

The point to VTEC is that you effectively have a economy cycle and a power cycle, not a hybrid like non-VTEC cars.

I miss Honda for the economy. I'm getting around 300 per tank (~$55+).

whats so stupid about that?
I totally agree with your comments..!

edit: I meant no VTECing! (if there is such a word), not meaning not having a VTEC engine.

The real Vtec engines are not designed to save fuel as a priority. They are designed for performance. The Vtec system is designed so the engine can produce power throughout the entire rev range.
If they were designed for saving fuel then why is my car reving at almost 4000rpm on the freeway in 5th.

my civic VI. im getting 400km per 25Litre.

thats 16km/litre.

im very happy with it

High Octane petrol makes a big difference too. i get around 70k's further per tank off bp ultimate than unleaded.

Vtec kinda was designed for saving fuel tho mate. The theory is to have a reliable daily driver with good fuel economy, and still produce good power if u need it. VTEC ROXX

All Honda engines are designed to save fuel. On my original post I say it's not a priority on the performance series Vtec engines.

JDM Element
24-12-2004, 08:20 PM
true true your right, i guess you could say its not their number 1 priority like it is with the jazz, but it is still a major priority and selling point of hondas..
power + reliablilty and economy
turbo cars can't off this

so the indicator is not a problem? my indicator stays 7/8 when fulli fuels (clicked when fueling) and now about 170km, it's down to almost on the red line... it's a problem on fuel meter or my engine is drinkin more fuel den it should?

keric_02

why does a vtir coupe use more fuel than a vtir hatch? it is coz of the closer gear ratios

dunno if anyone else has noticed but the EG fuel gagues go up and down like a yoyo.

i agree with it, also after u fill up, the pin when over the full mark, then it takes 300kms for the pin to drop to half way mark, then only it takes 100kms to drop to below 1/4, then ends in around 420 -470km.

i use 98 from BP, the most expensive, thought it is better, and i even put those after market liquid which says boost the kms,and removed all the stuff from the boots(such as wheel, put light weight racing seats), and i put 40 L, yet only goes for 500k max, dun know whether the low fuel light works or not, since nothing work with my car, so i fuel up every 500km, but wanna try to drive until it dies.
