ok. not very happy about it.

waited 2.5 months for the Mugen Front lip kit from a trader here.
the kit is genuine but there is bent at one part that cause it to not fit properlly.

if your can find it..
small bent but cause the kit not to fit properlly

I went to the local workshop and The workshop guy said you need to cut it and fibreglass it again.
I was like, "wtf, why did I buy genuine kit for, if it still need to be customised"
and Why would Mugen let this kind of defect through anyway..

moreover the trader gone until next year.
Life just perfect...

Since is plastic
Try a heat gun and bent it if the bent is not too big

Genuine mugen is fiberglass? I would have thought it would be better than that.

TwEigh

I think..

genuine mugen is polyurethane just like OEM

Mugen Kits is fibreglass?

Yeah it does look like poly - which would make sense as that is stronger than fiberglass.

Maybe they are talking about cutting out the bent part and patching it up with fiberglass? Euro1978 will know - he used to deal in body kits.

thats prob what the panelbeater meant....
i mean u cant really use anything else other than fibreglass to re-attach bodykit parts thats been cut up.....
take it to another panelshop. Trust me, quality panelshops make all the diff.
If you remember in my older thread when my mugen kit was comin from perth....condition was good, not great....needed to be worked heaps and fitment was a PITA. but pple who deal with bodykits and ONLY bodykits + panels know what they talkin bout...and im sure theres a way around fitting ur mugen kit without resorting to cutting the bar. I mean, if it was a genuine bar, i sure as hell woudlnt want it to be cut!

I'm with some of the others, send it back d00d. You didn't pay for a defective GENUINE kit. Looks like it's been bent or kinked on something soon after being made.

yeah Im totally agree with you guys.. as i said in the first post. whats really the point buying original kit when it still need to be customised :(

even my previous replica euro-r kit didnt have this kind of bent.
and once it is customised it lost its originality :(

better wait for the trader to be back and hear what he has to say..
I have emailed him
but still about ~1 month until he gets back :(

all kits need to be shaved to fit even genuine ones...

that defect on the lip shouldn't be there...the trader should have noticed it before even sending the item down to you :thumbdwn: return it and get a refund dude

TwEigh:

I wouldn't let penal shop temper with the defective front lip. You pay the $, you should get a faultless new front lip from the trader.

Once the penal shop touches it, there is always a chance trader wont take the responsibility of replacing it.. so better be patient, and wait for reply from the trader..

If the trader deal the situation fairly, I am sure they will get plenty more Mugen kits order from members here.

It was Replica
It was from indo.
It fit perfectly on the side and back.
the front just have little gap on the fog lamp cover.
the guy who bought my kit, seemed to mod it, and it fit just fine.

Hey Tweigh - got your PM, thought I may as well reply here.

That would be a production defect and unfortunately companies often sell their 'near perfect' kits overseas in the hope that buyers will be discouraged from returning kits due to the difficulty in shipping a kit.

(I used to make bodykits and I can tell you that we used to send the 95 percenters ;) interstate and to New Zealand and the best ones would go to Victorian customers who obviously got to see the goods before they paid for them.

Anyway back to your front lip - I would recommend taking it to a bumper bar repair/restorer factory - these are guys that fix broken bumper bars and resell them to panel beaters who either like ripping people off by charging them for a new bar or for cash jobs etc - anyway they are experienced in plastic welding and they will be able to fix that very easily.

A plastic kit has to fit perfectly as it really cannot be modified to fit like a fibreglass kit can and anyone who has worked with plastic will know this - try to sand plastic and see what happens - you make a mess of it.

Regards

So let me see if i get this straight.

$600 for the kit by ship
And extra $600 - $800 if i want to get it by air
Then your normal panel beating costs.

What would you need me to do, these guys cant be contacted?

TwEigh

600 bucks for the kit itself.
600-800 bucks to get it to australia By air. (approximation)

The guy CAN be contacted, but he cant speak english :(
and how are you going to make the payment?
you need actually come to the shop and make the payment

most shop in indo are very traditional, not accepting credit card nor internet payment.
I tried to make similar to EFTPOS payment to the shop who sell euro-r kit but he didnt have the machine..
and he doesnt do international shipping and packaging, we'll need to organise it seperately

btw I think the kit isnt made of plastic.
If you refer to my first post and click the picture, it looks like it is made from polyurethane or fibreglass

euro1978
04-12-2005, 08:57 PM
It is 100% not fibreglass

Its going to bePolyurethane (i believe) or an extruded plastic and my understanding is that both can be welded/repaired by bumper bar reconditioners.
