my rim n tyre combo

i have 16 x 6.5 with 205/45
wud 195/45 fit better or wud it make no difference in fitting or theoretical performance? im stressing theoretical hehe

6.5 rims should have a better fitment wth 195 tyres.

regarding to 205/40 and 204/45... the width is the same (7"), 40 will hav a lower profile ie. thinner tyres. whereas 45 is thicker hence more comfatable and also will increase the overall dimension of the wheels (rims + tyres)

yes fairly noticable in appearance and comfort. to a certain extent i guess it'll depend on ur suspension setup as well. if u hav a rather stiff setup, u'll find 45 more comfy to ride on.

It isnt just the sidewall height that gives a comfortable ride.

To put it simply, you wont notice much change in grip between the 195/205, but it all depends what tyres you get. You could think there is a difference only because you got better tyres, or tyres that suit your driving style more.

Not sure what speeds you drive at, but if you get oversized tyres for a rim, you could have issues with sidewall flex (if it has crappy sidewalls) at high speeds. (You should see my crappy nankang tyres going around a corner at high speeds!!).

When changing wheels and tyres, remember to keep the rolling diameter the same as standard otherwise you will have to recalibrate the speedo.


If you find a tyre too uncomfortable, drop the pressure 1-2psi. It makes a much bigger differnence then 7mm extra sidewall. If you want to go into the hills or race, put it back up because honestly, who is thinking about comfort when racing/in hills....
