D16A8 got 102HP

hey Guys,

i ran my car at the recent Vtechnique Dyno Day and my D16A8 managed 102HP (76kw) at wheels.

i think thats not a bad effort hey? im running intake, extractors and exhaust.

Next mods are a set of CAMS.. :) hoping for something over 110HP.

Im running RS*R extractors. 2.25 inch exhaust.

Cams - OH yEAH! I just need to find the right profile to suit my mods and to run stock ECU. :)

this was ages ago, like almost a year. i had stock cat, eg6 box with K&N, no twinloop and no cam gears and the water pump was leaking lol also my car was running very crap :thumbdwn: id expect over 110hp easy nowadays

im not sure mike, im a lil bit of a dyno noob, i was glad to see my lil zc pull good on the dyno.


my car has over 230 000ks and it had like 210 000ks when i got it dynoed, allot i know but starts like a champ and runs **** everytime.

when i get my exhaust fixed and my tranny done ill go again, should get 115+ i HOPE.

Dyno figures accross the board seemed a little low to me also - I noted it was in shootout mode - not sure if THAT means anything though.

The 'ZC's as I call em (DOHC incl. D16A8) did well.. I was impressed with the power-curves of the little non-VTEC'ers. plus they sounded awsome too !!

u consider that the ZC is rated from 120-130HP in stock trim at the Flywheel and mike pulled ~100HP.. where my B16 rated at 170 pulled merely 121.9WHP.. do some maths there and you'll see.. you'll see.. well you'll see something HAHAHA :cool:

when I complete tabulating the data from the dyno day you'll see the 'ZC' vs the rest and they hold up well.. would have been interesting to see an example with cams and headwork on the dyno but will have to wait for another opportunity.

oh yeah :P i should have some CAMS next time we organise a dyno :) all I need to do now it try 1/4 miling the CRX and see what I get.

How much difference on the Dyno - do you guys think - 15s. 16s or 17s make for the HP readouts.

Im hearing on NZHondas that im actually down on power - as their cars make 115HP with the mods we have... i recon its the dynos...

I think the dyno was a little harsh imo.

I got 115WHP previously on a dyno after my I/H/E on my D16y8
And at this event I only mangaged to scavenge a measly 104Hp With I/H/E +untuned Cam. Was very upset .

Although most of the B16as there got 120WHP
So when you look at it that way im making 15hp less than a b16a

160hp @ Flywheel minus 15hp

It would be fair to say im running 145Hp at the fly which is 15Hp improvment from stock. with the mods i have.

Hm i think if i dyno tune the slut ill get more power.

It's all in the dyno.....do you know what sort of figures you were getting before the mods?

My Jazz is puliing those sort of figures with a cat-back and intake on a Dyno Dynamics roller (consistantly over different days)

Might wanna get thet D16 in to gear! Just kidding...dynos are good for tuning....1/4mile is good for bragging

yeah wouldnt worry about being down compared to the NZ boys. i'm sure that 2 different dynos 1000kms away from one another are not calibrated exactly the same.
no point in comparing figures from diff dynos. however we can compare diff engines on the same dyno on the same day:thumbsup:
i had mine dyno'd prior to header at another dyno and made 88hp atw then made 99.9 (god damn - 0.1hp shy of the 100 mark) at this dyno. i dont think my headers gave me 12hp atw.

on the 2nd run it actually goes back down a little.
but the real interesting bit is the flat spot is around 100km/h to ~ 115km/h.

Sivic, mate thats not a dip in power. Yours is actually a good line. The interesting thing to note is that it keeps making power till rev cut !

I'll upload my dyno chart and also upload another which shows what a dip in power is.

look at the blue curve. Thats a dip in power and a direct responce for having a full blown race ECU in a car which hasnt the cams or other engine parts to compliment it.

This was a dyno comparisaon i did earlier in the year.
By looking at the A/F ratios clearly my car needs a serious tune !

whoa yeah that a dip. that must have felt interesting when driving.
i guess mine aint too bad. considering it made peak power very similar to the other ZC's its indicating a decent low down power curve relative to the rest of the rev range.
yeah, no doubt yours would benefit greatly from a tune

That was with the Mugen ECU. Actually there was no feeling in loss of power. You can hear the vtec kickin but you didnt feel it. But when the power came, my god it pulled damn hard ! If you look at the green line - current ECU and the blue line Mugen ECU. You can see the midrange gains.
