Why is it that even when my car is warm, and i give it a hit in first, the vtec doesnt kick in for the first few times while driving, then after a while driving it does?

Oil Pick-up line?
Head Gasket?
Timing Issue?

Anybody have any answers? Seems fine in every other gear, only plays up in first...

How long is the warm up period?

I have to drive mine for a few minutes before the vtec kicks in, If I take it to vtec engagement 3 times it will usually be warm enough to kick in consistently, after starting the car.

Also it might be the 50wt oil you put it, I told you 10-30w. :D

regardless of VTEC or not...warm up your engine !
VTEC is enabled and run by oil pressure correct ? So if an engine is cold then it simply wont engage...take care of ur engine dood

generally i dont think you can feel vtec that much in first because there is already so much torque.

hehe yeah, its the solenoid, friend said dere was some oil in it, ur engine can be warmed up to temp but the oil in the solenoid can still be cold so vtec dun kick in

i had the same probo, changed the oil now shes all good. i used special vtec oil that i bought from rick damelian $55 a 5litre bottle.

vtec in 1st doesnt kick in like 2nd does. not a huge gain in 1st i rekon.

You guys are ****ed, special vtec oil my ****.

There are several things which will stop Vtec from engaging.

Low oil pressure and low engine temp are probably the main ones.

Make sure you have enough oil. I've heard people on this forum complaining about vtec cutting out going around corners. this is because they didn't have enough oil in the engine.

Also wait for your car to warm up, it will take at least 10 minutes of driving on a cool day if not more. let the temp needle get over the first few notches before you start lead footing it, you're just destroying your engine otherwise.
