Hi all, for the past 2 months...
When I cold-start the car, the revs go to 3000rpm, then instantly plunges down to 1500rpm, then quickly back up to 3000rpm. Its almost as if there is a blockage in the exhaust - but I dont think thats the cause though.
When the car is totally warmed up, most of the time it will idle at 1000rpm (normal), but occasionally it will sit at 1500rpm for no apparent reason.
Last week, the engine stopped on me, and recently had a new Distributer Coil, new spark plugs, and new spark plug wires. Its up and running again now (the car has much more power now btw), and the mechanic noticed the idle problem.
The mechanic said it could be the oil temperature sensor or something - I think he mentioned the throttle body, but not 100% sure. I didnt get them to to a proper diagnostic since I needed my car asap, plus he said it would be expensive to fix.
I read somewhere else that carbon deposits can build up in the throttle body - could this be causing the problem? How do I clean it out?
Any ideas?
Car details:
Honda Civic 93' Si 4door Sedan Manual.
Engine: ZC D16A8, 1.6L DOHC 16Valve 137hp (Same non-VTEC engine in some older CRX's)
KM: ~250,000
Oil used: Mobil Synth S 10W-40
Engine work since new: Only timing belt, water pump, tapet adjustments, and upper seal due to oil leak. Its now leaking from the CAM seal though, but very slowly. Performance is still excellent and still loves to rev 6000+ no probs.
