View Full Version : help: is it camber or wheel alignment??
got problems.. my tyres seem to go bald fast in front wheels..especially in front left 2x faster and a bit wider (balder) than the front right tyre.
tyre: 14/195/60
how low: around 1 finger space from (the fender to tyre)
i think, i need wheel alignment..if so where is a good place and how much.. or is it something else.. need ur advise.thx

hehe. front wheel drive. do you ever get wheel spin off at lights or anything? cos thats your left wheel goin crazy not gettin traction whereas your right, which is under more weight (you) gets some traction. yeah get a wheel alignment it can only help on an older car.
as for camber... im not too sure on it myself... anyone????
Pretty easy solution -- fork out $50 for a laser wheel alignment that will check everything including camber. If the rear is in spec they will not charge you more than $50 ish - if the rear needs adjustment they usually charge another $20 or so. Take your pick of where to go - Beaurepairs, etc.
Also toe impacts wear more than camber.

as said ~ get a fuill wheel alignment - it may adjust toe to correct alittle uneven wear , but mostly it will tell u if ur camber is out of wack or other suspension parts are in need of repair.

Whiteline & Noltec offer complete upper wishbone for your car that allow camber correction for lowered rides and castor adjustment for improved turn-in and response.
Totally transform the way the car handles, improves tyre life and can improve traction in a straight line for acceleration & braking(bigger tyre contact patch)
Wheel alignments are good but there is only so much adjustment from the factory...

What he said, plus be wary of some wheel alignment places. Personally I'm kinda picky and some will be happy if the alignment specs are off .5 to 1 degree etc...
Ask for recommendations in your area.
And the latest "equipment" like laser guided microscopic tracking hybrid technology alignment systems (I made it up btw) can only do so much, it's the persistance and dedication of the operator to actually adjust those changes constantly and get read outs until it's perfect... so fancy equipment basically isn't always the best.

Personally, I prefer checking toe with a tape measure myself every month, just to see if it needs adjusting.
Check your castor bushes for excessive wear, they often alter static 'toe' settings when accelerating & braking causing excessive tyre wear on inner edges too.
I know some people even fit washers to the rear suspension upper arm - chassis mounting point to reduce rear camber/squat
ok THANKS GUYS.. very helpful for the great info.... i prolly go for laser full wheel alignment.
anybody know a good plc close to strathfield/bankstown area?? or even city, east suburbs?? thx
btw is it better to get my new tyres first then do full wheel alignment or wheel alignment first then change tyre?? or same thing... :P thx
haha..stupid question...been a loooong day -cant think straight :P..
disregard the question. thx :)
