View Full Version : K&N Pod filter
I have recently fitted a universal K&N pod filter and was shock with the noise when the vtec kicked in. Its so loud, it turns head on the streets and had a deep low tone at lower revs. My question is why does it get so loud? The car is a 3rd gen crx that comes with B16A2. Apart from the filter everything is stock.

well, your filter used to be contained in box which kept the sound in....

Stock intake systems are set up to be quiet and efficient.....a 'performance' filter setup are not confined by noise levels...
dont be alarmed....this is quite typical...

its OK, it is a performance filter, which is now reducing the horsepower output.. unless it has a cold air partition or airbox, which I am doubting

'sri'??
SRI = Short Ram Intake
....as opposed to a:
CAI = Cold Air Intake (sucks in cool air from the front of the car -ie. outside of the hot engine bay)
Stick a turbo after that airfilter and u will be sickended witht he intake sound. I seriously hate the sound, literly sucks air like a 747! Alaas, it gives the turbo what it wnts, unretricted air intake.
CAI is good, i hate driving my car int he midday heat, because its an absoulte slug in the traffic!

hehehe
Does anyone know if i can get these heat shield to isolate cooler air from engine heat. I have found this pic from the k&n website.

I think this could be a neat way but i doubt they have one for a 3rd gen crx.

crx: u could install that heatshield but its illegal if the filter is not in a box.
VTEC16: thanks for the SRI explanation. ive never seen anybody say that b4. :o
