View Full Version : Possible motor gbox swap for an EJ8
Hi there- (already searched yo)
This is the situation,
My girlfriend has an 96 EJ8, purchased quite cheap-
Motor is rat **** along with the gearbox.
What else with more power would fit-
Remember I dont want to make any mounts etc-
Just lloking to see if there is a motor with VTEC on both inlet/outlet, cus currently its a Vti- and from my knowledge that is a fuel injected motor 1.6 cap. with VTEC on the intake cam purely for fuel economy purposes.
MY initial idea was to purchase a halfcut/wreck VTiR civic of the same series myabe newer and do a engine swap.
Please help me understand what is required for such a conversion.

so essentially your saying you want to do an engine swap?
bro bro. no need to fabricate mounts just source a halfcut or just find another sohc vtec engine and swap it over, whats the problem here?

you should be able to get a B16a2 to fit from a EM or EK with out much hassle. wiring will be fun :)

How can you say you've already searched. You're telling me there no infomation on here about engine conversions?
Anyways, if you can find a EK4 half cut it's a straight swap. EM1 will require some wiring.
So yeah guys- thats the idea- an engine swap-
But my query is what motor do I swap the crappy Vti with-
I would like to see a H22A go in- but dreams cost money and its not myn.
So yeah- basically whats the most cost effective engine to swap with-
Maybe the same motor but with the VtiR head is my reckonning.
Am I on the right track here guys?
Please recommend a workshop whom I could chat with.
I have heard of Hannys performance but I cant find details of them.
Thanks guys-
Btw any of you coming tommorrow night?

VTI-R head won't fit on your current engine.... so yeah!

How can you have done any research? You are very off track, we can't really help you with your questions till you get some basic understanding first.

EK4 = 96-97
EJ8 = 98-00 (I think)
IN AUSTRALIA the engine MUST be newer or at least the same age as your chassis.. for a number of reasons.. so for example it is illegal to use a B16A(2) from an 95EG6 in your 97 EJ8.
just thought you should be aqware.. swaps into late model EK/EJ's are getting difficult cause is so hard to find any 'newer' front cuts.. and yes Mikey.. you too would have to find an EF8/EF9 that was last off the assembly line ;)
To barefoot bonzai-
Mate- I have a basic understanding of mechanics- I used to be a mechanic before I got sick of being payed sweet F.A. whilst the owner was charging $97 an hour.
Its just I am unaware of Honda engine codes and how they are classified-
I am under the impression that an EK4 is a civic VtiR 98 model onwards-
I am also thinking it would be best to either rebuild the current motor and gearbox $4-4.5K
or
Transplant the 98 civic Vtir motor and box out of a good condition car-
The first option is safe and expensive
The second increases power (insurance) but drags the value of the car up.
Only drag I would need to do a rear disc brake conversion- also I am unaware of the ecu wiring hassles.
Then again I have a mate who is willing to do the work and he also is a Honda fan/owner
I apologise if it seems like I dont know anything but in my current job I dont even get the time to do my own repairs- my mechanic picks my car up- fixes it- washes it- then comes to collect his money when he drops off my car.
Mind you I do all my servicing.

my advice shanteh....
find a written off or repairable write-off DC2 or ek4 locally ( at pickles etc) and just transfer over all parts needed....then sell off what you can.
Hold up- dc2?
integra motor?
Me not no engine codes too well.

You think wrong my friend.
EK4 = 96 - 98 Civic VTi-R
EJ8 = 96 - 98 Civic Vti Coupe. Did I mention it was a coupe?
You think wrong my friend.
