The third generation of the Supra was the first time the Supra appeared without the Celica badging.
The new model came with either a 200hp normally-aspirated engine, the 7M-GE, or the 230 hp single turbo model designated 7M-GTE, which had an intercooled turbo and electronic ignition. Both models still had a straight inline-6 with dual overhead cams and fuel injection, but the Mark III now had a displacement of 3.0 litres.

The imported model arrived in Australia with approx. 230 kw at the engine. On the other hand the Australian model left the factory with a mere 170 kw after being "de-tuned" thanks to Australian design rules for new cars. The Australian Mk III's were de-tuned by decreasing the turbo boost to 6psi and installing a 2.25" exhaust with 2 catalytic converters and a restrictive muffler. The Imported model had 14psi turbo boost and a 3" completely non-restrictive exhaust.

I think you can pretty much generalise that roughly 90% of cars that have turbos strapped to them are going to be heavy. Afterall, if they didn't have the turbo, they'd have absolutely no balls :rolleyes:

Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but common ones that come to mind are the Supra (as mentioned) and a 300ZX. Great cars with a TT setup, but shocking without it...

300ZX TT is a piece of shit, far far too many problems with the bastards, single turbo is better, + fit a bigger turbo, have it all set up right and you will get less lag than the TT

The actual logistics of fitting a single turbo setup to this car/engine layout...baffles me. Unless there is the turbine and manifolds mounted through the centre of the bonnet, I cannot see a largish single turbo in there, amoungst a v6 engine - the re-routing from one exhaust side to the other just to the turbo seems highly silly :P
I just dont see this happening.

VTi-R EG??? doesn;t exsist, but the Si should beat it anyway, or at least keep up side by side.

The VL-t does 0-100 in 8sec. ets very high too. so a EG civic Si should be an NA VL EASY. Mine wooped my mates. like WOOPED the mutha. he had nothing. Not only that but i wasn't redlining hahaha

N/A supra's rnt quick at all, my mates got one and ive driven the heavy beast. off the line, the civic vti-r can win, ive seen it happen 3 times wen he raced a civic coupe vti-r (em1 i think) on the way home from livo runs. it didnt beat him by much, but it won (as u kno, winnings winning :D, bahaha).
but these cars do have alrite top end in them... once they're moving its ok.

Sure our civics rock, being all cute-sy and handling like a dream but I dont think we should go comparing to the big boys, even to the fat ass NA Supra and 300ZX. Even as a non-turbo the Supra is wipeass material. 0-100 in flat 7seconds for an NA has to earn respect. The TypeR or s2000 earns respect for being a 7second (0-100kmh) why cant the Supra?? Yes it is a lard of metal, and personally I would never buy it but it'll still wipe the floor clean out of any VtiR Civic. My mate owns a Supra NA (full-ish sick riceboy) but its got abit of kick in her still. Beats my mates Silvia turbo everytime too. I can imagine them being really slow off the line in an Auto, but in a manual NA Supra, these things can really get off line smart if u're a good driver. Geez, any RWD can.
I'd buy a civic over a supra anyday but I dont think its fair to generalise.. Imagine you read a post boasting that their Echo sportivo or Hyundai Excel (with only an exhaust) thrashed the crap out of a Civic VtiR, coz civic VtiR's are slow as shit... How offensive would that be to us??

I know we're in a honda forum but Im just pointing out the fact that it reflects on how shallow and imature we can be from patriotism.. I see this everywhere..
