Hey guys, just a quick question...
I have a 92' EG Civic GL - (1.5l twin carb ) yes.. not the fastest...
My question is, im about to buy a boat and i obviously need to move it with my car..
Would my civic be up to the task.. I know it might struggle but would it be able to to do it ? BTW i need to get a tow bar for my civic if anyone has one ..

How big/heavy is the trailer? You will need to look into the towing capacity of your car (see the manual).

Correct, but I highly doubt you will be able to. Depends on how heavy the boat is with trailor. But usually civics can tow somewhere around 500-800kg. Which I doubt will be enough. Check your manual though.
oh, and dont say stuff it I will try anyways if the boat & trailor are heavier, coz you could strech your chassis.

Also consider braking ability as well.
You would want to make sure the trailer has its own brakes unless you like zooming through red lights.

if its just a tinny with a small motor then i cant see the problem - but anything larger id think NO.
BTW checked my civic manual and our cars seem to officially be able to tow up to 1000kg ( with brakes) or 700kg without.
IF over 500kg , remember to adjust the layout of the load so that alittle more is towards the rear of the trailer but never more than 50f/50r ratio.

i really wouldn't recommend it man
as trev noted it wouldn't be good for your chasis towing such a large load. the extra strain on your engine is another reason i wouldn't
not only would it be bad for your car but you'll end up on one of those websites with people overloading cars with loads of like 100 chairs or balancing timber on the back of postie bikes :D

i think the real question is..
"would you tow a bigass boat with your torqueless civic?"
Just a little story...
Once me and a mate towed a magna wagon (tow rope) with a rental 1999 Lancer..
gosh.. the clutch woulda been F#$32d

Sounds like a good reason to install a turbo ;)

Im just wondering how you are going to get traction with a FWD on a wet boat ramp?
Time to upgrade to the CRV;)

mate i don't think the civic is heavy enough you might not have the force to stop the boat

yeh, i think the civic might just be up to the task, but it would struggle a hell of a lot, especially up hills... and i wouldnt really feel comftable towing something that heavy.......
Looks like i think its time to sell her and mayb get a 4WD :(

Or maybe an Accord Euro? That may have enuf torque from its 2.4 vtec. ..or even the normal V6 Accord for that matter.
