Hey guys, I just got a 2 inch cat back with a twin loop muffler (but it has a 2.5" inlet) and I still find that it is quite noisy especially when accelerating....but its quiet when its idle though....its got a 15 inch reso though....
is there anything to make it quieter? do those 'deadener' sprays work and like those deadener foams that they put in panels to improve audio sound quality help?
oh yeah i actually asked for a 18" reso but got 15" which is standard for those guys....thinkin of goin back there tm....would that make a diff?
Thanks guys...

A longer resinator will defintely make it quieter, I have a 20" on my car.

A guy at work had a loud 3" exhaust on his Skyline. He got a 3" round metal filter thing that sits right at the end of the tip of the exhaust, and now its much quieter.
I dont think it would affect performance, since the exhaust tips are usually much bigger than the cat-back pipe.
Have no idea where to get them, I wanna get one myself for my 2.5" tip.
ZDSter, is this the 'resinator' you mentioned?
[edit] im guessing the resinator is basically the muffler...

hey Euro, could u ask him where he got it from mate? cheers...but my twinloop doesn't have an option for a silencer though (s10)

i got 2.25 inch piping with twin loop wif no resonator at all. i dont feel thats its loud in any way. at least its not as bad as a farting cannon. Just think to ureself if u can live with it day by day. If u can't then by all means go for the longer resonator but if its ok ok for daily drive then just stick wif it.
Good luck.
does having a larger resonator (or a resonator at all) greatly affect performance?
ie. wouldn't a resonator make the airflow more restricted...thus lowering power...which is pretty much the main reason for getting an exhaust

wanting a quiet exhaust is like wanting a chik with small **** and flat ass.
wateva u do dont spray that "deadner" stuff on it it'll burn as the muffler gets extremely hot.

if n e thing, spray that stuff to the body near the muffler to prevent that dron getting inside the car

how about a longer resonator + typeR muffler

whats a resonator?
The simple answer is it is a piece of pipe with perferations in it that disrupts the sound wave made by the exhaust gases and as such makes the exhaust quieter.

I do not believe so. It is still a straight through piece of pipe and it is only the outer edges that are any different. Plus it is the same size (if not slightly larger) than the rest of the exhaust so there is no restriction. I guess the question is, by twirling/bumping/disrupting the exhaust which is being forced does this cause slow and therefore restrict the exhaust system? (My guess is that it does very little as the exhaust is still being forced out and the pipe work is still straight through).

hey guys its actually alright, but i was actually expecting it to be a lot quieter i guess from the twinloop....i have to say i was surprised to hear that it is quite loud when revved hard....maybe was just expecting too much or sumfin...
but the sound does sound a lot better than my old cannon which was very hollow and deep that made the car sound weak... :D
but one more question, the guys got me a 2.5 inch inlet for a 2 inch cat back pipin...i wanted a 2.25 instead....would there be a performance diff? can feel the car has more power now and go uphills a lil easier
all twinloop mufflers regardless if inlet size have the same internal dimensions.
if u want a quieter exhaust go back to stock or put larger or another resonator on it.
to say the twinloop is loud is crazy. quietest muffler on the market. they r designed to be quiet when low throttle but when WOT there SHOULD be noise, but it can hardly be described as loud, well imo anyways.

ITR muffler won't fit on EK or EG - its too long... tried it and the barrel doesn;t fit in the gap.

Is that only for the hatch or the sedan too ?

i'm sure it would fit a sedan

ITR muffler fits a sedan but not a hatch i tried.
But Egsi is right a twin loop is the quietest muffler i ever had.
Otherwise there is no use getting an exhaust system if you don't want at least some noise.
Reasonators do give slight restriction as they cause turbulence due to the groves in it, thus the reduction in noise.
If you want to keep the noise quiet then go back to stock. Its quiet cos it has lots of restrictions to stop the noise.

guys don't get me wrong, i dun want a quiet exhuasts. its just that i was expecting it to be quieter as my friend just has an exhaust (not the cannon types, not sure what they're called - r mufflers???) and it seems to be quieter than mine...i'm like wtf i guess
and my old cannon was loud for sure and it was annoying me recently esp for daily drivin, hence the change of muffler but added a 2 inch pipin....but i'm alrite with it now.....but the tone is definitely sweet ass :D

There are a whole range of things that influence sound including exhaust pipe width, the type of muffler selected, the resonator etc.

its not too long. it touches the shifter. and the hooks are in the wrong position. length wise its exactly the same.

You also gotta consider that your have a larger exhaust than the piping. If you got the same size as the piping i'm sure it would b quieter.
OR you could go original Mugen twinloop i've heard that are even more quieter.

the ITR muffler does fit ppl all u have to do is modify it. i have seen it on a white EG hatch

I'm thinking of changing my stock CAT back system to HKS Silent muffler series.
Does anyone know whether they are really silent? I do not wanna an exhaust system that is noisy. Never did like to attract attention...
Cheers!

Johnnie
