our only hope is to be able to source the mugen kits etc from over seas.. pretty much same as we've been doing so for 10 years..

Check out two motoring mag reviews of the 2006 Civic sedan in

http://www.honda.com.sg/civic/review.htm

The lucky S'poreans are getting their sedans from Japan.
I'm interested in the 2.0L. Let's hope that Honda Aust make available both the 1.8L and 2.0L. The 2.0L is really needed to compete with the Mazda 3 which is available in 2.0L and 2.3L.

I think my 'friend at honda' is the same as TYPEONE's and I have been sworn that we will get 4 civic's in 2006:

1.8L SOHC Sedan (Vi/Luxury spec)
1.8L SOHC Sedan (GLi/Entry Spec)
1.3L HYBRID Sedan
2.0L DOHC Coupe.

I was also told "Australia will definately be getting a type R"..

Personally from my own research and experience, I would say we'll get the 1.8L coupe in 2007 when initial sales wane.. I'd still be surprised if we get a 2L in either the sedan or a coupe.. but once again it'd be to boost sales after the initial release.

as for a type R - well I'd say IF we ever get one it wont be till the facelift model or even the model year after the facelift.

AS for the hatch ? well after the not-so-hot sales for the out-going Vi 5-doors I doubt Honda Australia is in a hurry to re-introduce another 5-door.. just cause it's got shaved rear door handles, it's still a 5-door minivan guys !!

http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/perl/35111_657007_RVD_05Dec2005101228.cmd

so looks like the new civic will have hybrid, 1.8 and 2.0L engines

Well it's a K20 under the hood plus lots of features for your dough.

if we get an Si Coupe or god-forbid a Type R it will be significantly higher than $30K.

what do you expect ? I mean My EG5 back 12 years ago was $29,990 so really when you think about it it's pretty reasonable.

The pricing of the Civic is reasonable, but i still feel that the Sport model price could be a little lower. If the car had sport tuned suspension ,lower ride height, maybe the motor could also be a little more powerful,I might be tempted in buying the car.Doesn't the sport model also weigh about 100 kgs more than the VTI !?!
Maybe I'll change my mind when i see it in the "flesh"? :)

In the early nineties until the late nineties Honda could command high prices, because they were at the top of their game. When i bought my Civic in 1998, the VTI-R version was $33,000 (not on road). In terms of power (from small capacity engines)and handling Honda could not be touched !
Now, it is quite a different story.

hondarox
04-02-2006, 06:09 PM
Guys, there's no point in crying over spilt milk.
The new sedan Civic will be from Thailand period.
The 2.0L rrp of $31,990 for the auto is very good value for money.
It beats the Mazda Sp23 rrp of $31,320 by a mile and you get extras like leather, sunroof, mirror indicator lights, etc.
In S'pore the Japanese made 2.0L sedan costs $66,120.
Visit the "FCAI" website and you'll find that out of 70,003 vehicles sold in Jan, 81% are imports, 41% are Toyota imports, 10% are Korean and 9% are Thai!
Some 3-series and C-class have always been made in South Africa.
In fact, some E-class will also be made in China!

I just finished reading todays Motoring liftout from "THE WEST" (west australian daily papers). They had two page review of all new civic that's on the way to oz.
They did testing in NZ, but only 1.8l models with man and auto trans.
It was all positive feedback, but the said they would love to get their hands on 2.0l model, because as they said 1.8 was going pretty good.
Models coming are:
1.8l VTi man $20990
1.8l VTi auto $22990
1.8l VTi-L man $22490
1.8l VTi-L auto $26490
2.0l Sport man $29990
2.0l Sport auto $31990
1.3l Hybrid CVT $31990

All model including enteri level 1.8l Vti man ($20990) have ABS with electronic brake force distribution, power steering, air conditioning, central locking, cruise control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, power windows and mirrors, two air bags, active front head restrains, fold-down rear seat and speed-sensative audio controls.

VTi-L adds an outside temp gauge, climate controle, split-fold rear seat, side air bags, security alarm, alloy wheels and six-stacer CD.

Sport model comes with six airbags, electric two way sunroof, electric power steering, 16" alloys, driving lights, steering wheel mounted audio controls and exclusive grey or blue leather interior.

Hybrid has same specs as sport just different engine.

I think that for normal every day driving basic model gives a lot for that price tag of $20990, Sport model is good base for a bit of tuning (K20), still better priced than it's rivals with lots of goodies included in $29990.

They recon if UK build hach is ever gonna come it would be priced in mid 30K, so my opinion is if it's not a Type R hach thay shouldn't b even try.

I was just thinking if it would be possible getting a basic model $20990 but with 2.0l engine, like a special order from honda, of course we would pay a bit extra for engine but if we gonna mod the car we don't need 6 airbags, 16"rims, leather interior ect, I would personaly get bucket seats in, new rims and son on, paying almost $10K for something we don't need is big waste.

Catcha

While I think the new civic is hot, and addition with leather and sunroof rocks on the sports model, the pricing is too close to a new standard Euro, sure it ain't going to have the leather seats or sunroof like the Euro Lux but, better engine bigger car more roomy, Just a better car overall, if your going to spend that sort of money might as well save up a tad longer and get a Standard Euro. That my opinion anyway, and if i was looking at a civic sport I'll personally move up to a Euro

hondarox
05-02-2006, 09:09 AM
The rrp difference between the Civic 2.0L Sport auto and the Accord Euro auto is $3,510.
Bear in mind that the wheelbase of the new Civic is longer than the Euro - 2700 mm compared to 2670 mm !

7th Gen
05-02-2006, 10:48 AM
i guess its the same dilemma for those who chose between a fully loaded SP23 and a Mazda 6 Luxury

and I agree Civic Sport will cannabalise Integra sales, similar engine, why pay close to 40K for what is essentially a styling exercise?

more choice for the consumer? always a good thing :D

I just drove the new VTI-L automatic,my impressions were :

-The dynamics of the car excellent
- The instrumentation is clear and very legible,I was suprised at how
the digital speedo was so easy to read.
-Seats were very comfortable and supportive.
-Ride was very good, but don't let it fool anyone that the car isn't "chuckable because I certainly gave it a bit of test around curves, corners ,and roundabouts and to my suprise it performed extremely well.
-Brakes excellent.
_ overall the styling of the car is fine the "nose" still gives me problems,I would try to get an after market grille if I ever bought one.

I was quoted $23,887.70 on the road, for a VTI 5 speed with metallic paint .Does this quote seem reasonable !?!

The Herald-Sun review of the Civic Sport(17-3-06)showed that again the Civic is not at the top of it's class. It didn't come as a big suprise to me ,eventhough it did score well.
I know it is only one review but, being a new model it should have shown that it is a cut above the rest, not EQUAL to the rest!
It scored well in the fit and finish area.Equipment wise, being the "Sport " model it was praised.
Ride was ok,but not the class leader. The 2 litre engine, the writer believed that there wasn't that much difference in power with the 1.8 litre.
I still believe that the Civic is targeted to the over 35's,it seems to have too much American influence in design and the suspenion is not really tuned to Australian roads/conditions.
I still believe that the "sport " is overpriced and not worth the almost $10,000 over the VTI model. :(

Yes, the Civic Sport is overpriced at $35K.
A colleague just paid $37K driveaway for the new Rav4 Cruiser. He rather have that over the Civic. He said the engine is bigger, vehicle is bigger, made in Japan, ESP is included, dual auto climate air-con, more storage places, 17" alloys, 6 speakers, lighted front cup holders, lighted driver / passenger vanity mirrors, blah, blah, blah.

That being said, in recent reviews of the New Rav4 and Civic. There were more complaints about the Rav compared to the Civic. One thing that stood out from the civic review was how the reviewer was a little bit apprehensive about the Civic being built at Honda's Thai factory, he had concerns about the build quality. Here's a quote from the article:

Quality: I had reservations after sampling the Thailand-built Honda Accord, which was good but not up to Honda's usual levels of perfection. Try as I might, I couldn't fault this one. Panel fit, paint finish, cabin materials and switch gear were all A-grade. I thought South Korea had caught Japan in quality until I tested this Civic. Honda has just raised the bar again.

Here are the links to the reviews:

CIVIC SEDAN 1395kg !!!!!
I must be really living in the past. Where's the agile, stylish, economical 7-900kg 3D hatch of old? I 'm not interested in tallboy armoured tanks!

Where did that figure come from? That would place it heavier than the standard Accord Euro so I think 1395kg is definately wrong.

As for cars 700-900kg - what did you have in mind the the late 80s Suzuki Swift? That had next to no safety or luxury features and wasn't exactly built out of quality materials. It was also tiny compared to the new model Civics.

it already has a number of posts about it already. it's not a 'scoop' anymore as u can buy it freely overseas already

anyway....

as much as honda australia wants the the car, it will 99% not being coming to aus for financial reasons. the car is produced in the UK so with shipping costs and the exchange rate it is not commercially viable to import it to aus as it would be priced something like 10k more than it is worth.

however i have heard honda australia may have one tucked away at the hq headquarters :)

there has also been the release of the type R hatch......and i have heard the rumour of a civic RR (that's right double R like cbr bikes)

as far as i know the civic type r has a 2.2L dohc i-vtec engine (destroked k24a from the accords) to try and get some more torque over the previous model..

there is no news of what would be in the RR model as of yet however this article claims it to be at least 225 bhp

Au contraire mate, the only model in the UK/Euro line up in a hatch is a 5 door. The 3 door is yet to break cover officially. The Type R is to follow later this year.

I spoke to the CEO of Honda Australia during the launch of the new Civic, and mentioned this to him. He hinted at it being deleivered here if the price was right, his wry smile was the give away.

Sorry to say that the UK Civic still look ugly as to me! The U.S Civic Coupe looks so much better. Actually, both version has the same front, but why the U.S version's better. I give a good though and comes to the conclusion of the grill-less UK Civic looks gay as. The red UK Civic above proves me right. With a grill in the front, make it much much better looking.

ahh shit u r right, my bad.... well it only has 3 door handles on the 5 doors :p

like i said honda WANTS the civic hatch but i honestly can't see it happening. i work at a dealership and bug the dealer principals for info on whether we are getting but but it's just the same old story that if they bring it over if wont fit in the price bracket they want it at.

Yeah that bugs me too, when will the buying public start demanding the cars they want rather than buying whats on offer.

I had a guy come in to work with a brand new, still on dealer plates, Hyundai Sonata, and wanted the black, roof drip mouldings painted the same colour as the rest of the car, because he saw them like that on a Grandeur FFS! fair play to him, he got the dealer to pick up the tab for it as well!

i keep hearing all these rumours about the new line ups from Honda from various dealers and suppliers, yet none of them have JDM parts i want lol. Priorities... pssst!

again scummed off Auto express, damn i used to buy this mag when i lived in the UK!

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/picture_library/dir_51/car_portal_pic_25954.jpg

trying to find more pics now but this mag is fresh off the press about 20 minutes ago..

Although i have found these of the 3 door, cunningly camoflauged to look like a 5 door, note the tape in the rear window and taped rear door line

Possibly the Type R in testing...?
