Hey I just normally read bits and pieces from this site not much of a regular forumer but a few questions have come up during my learning process of hondas :). Firstly is FWD that much of a disadvantage in a 1/4 mile race, i have driven in a FWD car but never "dragged it" so i wouldn't have a clue but I hear people complaining how useless it is and this has given me 2nd thoughts of buying a crx and even though the nsx and s2000 are rwd they're out of my price range. :(
If i did get a crx I was planning to save up and in the future do a k20a engine swap but according to "guidlines for light vehicle modfication" on the rta website it gives you a formula "In millilitres (cc):Original tare mass (kg) x 3.0" that basically means the largest engine i can replace in my car otherwise "Vehicles with engines of greater capacity than that provided in the table will not be acceptable for registration as a modified
production vehicle." [correct me if im wrong] so doing the maths:
880 [crx's tare mass] x 3 = 2640 cc
2640 cc [from above] + 16000 cc [d16a8] = 18640
as you can see limits me at a 1.8 l engine, which is alright considering I still can swap to a b18c
so my question is did I understand the artictle from the rta correctly and im limited at 1.8l or did i misunderstand it? and is FWD the worst between AWD and RWD?

first of all what type of CRX gen1 gen2 or gen3 r we talking about.
CRX's r fun if your after the 1/4 mile times. Anything is possible depends on the money how much you got.
There are some guys who has got a 12sec pass. And thats in a D series non-vtec very impressive.
You got others with Vtec who can achieve that as well and push the boundaries.Of course its more easier to get off the shelf parts for a B series engine than a D.But there is still arguement on that and there are people out there that still believe in the D.
CRX's r fun and there are things u can do in a CRX that no RWD or 4WD ride can do(twisties - tight circuit racing, go kart manuovers).
I got some people who have done b18c conversion and they go pretty hard.
If there is anything u need feel free to ask.

one advantage of a fwd (this would also include MR and RR) is that there is much less power loss through the drivetrain to the wheels than a FR. I can tell you any crx is a quick crx throughout all generations light sharp agile little monsters. But as by going stock standard the JDM 2nd gen SiR is the quickest. And alot of FWD cars are known for being extremely quick off the line. Unfortunatly this is not a trait a crx has but once moving they are exciting little monsters. And if you were going by a rolling start a CRX is amazingly quick for its engine size. On a final note try and keep Vtec N/A and always turbo a D. Except in 3rd gens you have no choice all vtec la

12 seconds?
that's andy le's 11.74 second boosted d16a8

dude the only thing better than vtec or boost is having BOTH....BOOSTED VTEC y0!
there is no reason you can't have your cake and eat it too
as for swaps you could go b16a, b18c or k20a
the b series are obivously alot easier but with some custom work and alot of do$h you can squeeze a k20a in there.
it all depends on your budget, your application and how hard you wanna go.
give a more detailed question and you will receive a more detailed answer :)

You have misunderstood the RTA guidelines, the weight x3 rule actually means you can fit a 2640cc engine, or 2.640 litre capacity. 16000cc is actually a 16 litre engine and if you check your rego papers, it would tell you your engine is a 1596cc(i think?) engine
Therefore the K20A engine is legitimate in a 880Kg chassis.

isnt maximum displacement regarded to a percentile increase from the stock engine ? ( 10% or whatever...)
still , regardless i have seen quite a few and helped on a b18c engine in a few CRX's

This NSW RTA guideline, was designed to stop people putting 5 litre V8's into gemini's and came into force in the mid 90's. That is why you can't get a 13B turbo into an old RWD Mazda 323 anymore.
If however, you do increase your engine capacity by more than 15%, you require an engineers certificate to verify that it is legitimate for the above ruling and that brake/suspension/chassis strength etc are up to standard also.
Forced induction engines are also penalised by 20%, so a 2L turbo is classified as a 2400cc engine.
Once the car weighs more than 1100Kg though, you can fit any capacity engine you wish.

thanks for the help, it really cleared things up alot  . If I was gonna get a crx definently the gen 2 is the choice. I hope the k20 would decrease in price over the few years

the k20 price will drop as more motors become available and the swap will become cheaper as mechanics find out easier ways to do the the swap. But as your said over a few years!

the 'purple' (it's actually blue in most light) is is owned by the brother of the white with CF hood (hence them having the same rims in the pics)
