My 2003 Jazz Vti is near the end of its 3 year warranty. Is it worth it to extend the warranty for another 2 years? I think it costs $695.

Tries to make you keep going to your Honda dealer.

Have you had to have anything done under warranty to date? Most nearly everything will try to be classified as not a warranty issue by the dealer.

put the 695 in the bank in case you need it in the next few years.

i bought it for my type r, cos anything that goes wrong will prolly cost more than that anyway.
you dont have to get the car serviced by the dealer, same as when its under normal warranty.

The extended warranty is worth if it is free like when they were bundling it in a while back. It is a form of insurance but it would be like being insured with a company that didn't pay out when you had an accident.

If you don't get the car serviced by the dealer they will most definitely try to use that as an excuse not to honour it. But they will also try to use every other excuse under the sun.

i bought it because there are simply too much fault on mine. Replaced air con compressor , full steering column and starter clutch. Any of those repair will cost you more than that anyway. It's just peace of mind for myself rather than folking out 3K for the starter clutch.

Use the $695 to purchase a good set of tools. Build up other tools
and knowledge specifically for your car. Your savings will be cumulative
as you do more of your own servicing and repairs. But most importantly,
when your car has a breakdown, you're not completely helpless.
You've got some idea of the problem when you take your car to the repair
shop and hopefully not be charged by a wounded bull.

It's not everyones ideal sense of car ownership, especially if you are
provided with a company car via salary packaging. In my case I decided
motor maintenance to be my hobby - out of necessity and pleasure.
I undertake most of my own servicing and repairs except when it requires
specialist tools and knowledge for the job, eg. gearbox repair and other
gremlins beyond my mechanical/electrical experience.

My previous Honda had its 1000Km service at the dealership. I performed rest
of the servicing until I sold it at 166,000km. My other car is a '84 Civic.
I've done all servicing since it came to my ownership. It's done 430,000 and
looks like it will do 500,000 with regular maintenance.
My Jazz is 12 months with 28,500. It had its 1000Km service at the dealership.
At 10,000 I found that for a 45minutes service it was going to cost $175.
It's affirmed my attitude towards self vehicle maintenance.

This is not for everyone but I am prepared to wear the consequence.
The way petrol prices are heading, I'll be doing the maintenance on my Jazz
for a long time to come.

Have a Safe 2006 Motoring Year and plenty more to come.

Cheers.

I was told you could buy it as long as the warranty hadn't already run out.

I bought mine 1 month before the warranty run out. Just ask the service manager at Honda dealer and fill out the form and pay. Then Honda will send you a piece of paper confirm the extra 2 yrs of warranty.

it's actually 2 years extended warranty with all together 5 years roadside assits... peace of mind basically.. if you are to pay RACV for 5 years roadside assist, it's going to cost a few hundred bucks anyway...

BTW, you can bargain down the price.. $695 usual price, Honda send me a letter offering me $595 but I go it at the deal for $525...

Also, it will be better off if you are to sell the car with extended warranty attached.

My girlfriend bought AndyS' Jazz today and he included the extended warranty.

I'm usually very sceptical of extended warranties, but from what I've heard and from speaking to Honda, this one seems legit. I asked if there were any exclusions or limitations, or if its "a direct extension of the first three years, with no differences whatsoever". The guy said yes, it's simply an extension and still covers everything the original did.

I guess we'll see how we go if she has to make a claim. Hopefully she won't.

Cheers,

I personally feel that its worth it.......but when buying I considered that After 3 years I would sell the car BUT like others have mentioned you can purchase it before you warranty runs out

Generally there are restrictions in how to claim the warranty especially a big one. One requirement is to bring the car back to the dealer to have it serviced. Do not believe when the dealer said there was no need to bring back to the dealer for service. Get them to write it down black and white (i m sure they wont). Also car cant be modded. Its a different story if u buy the warranty for the sole purpose of selling the car, for better price and easiness of selling the car.

that a very good reason to add warranty before you sell it, certainly would entice me and can bargin with the dealer..... Might have to consider that when i sell mine

Definitely. It's what made my girlfriend choose Andy's Jazz over another one. :)

with the steering column what problem was that, funny noise at slow speed turning? The aircon compressor was it some ticking noise and what is the starter clutch? Im extending mine for similar problems and reasons and its gonna cost me abit under $600 and i see it being worth it and especially if im going to be selling my car hopefully in the first quarter of the year it'll give the next buyer some peace of mind

Steering - there is a *Click* sound when you turn at low speed. First they can't find the fault and I have asked them to drive it and they accepted the fault. Took them 2 weeks to order the parts from Jap.

Same as the air con - ticking noise when you turn it on and they are only willing to accept the fault after two services complains.

Starter clutch problem - this will only apply to CVT. The steering will shutters and you can feel something is slipping in the gearbox and the car is not moving. This only happen when you first start the car from standing still. Once the car is in motion, the problem dissappear.

Jazz seems pretty well built, but things go wrong with any car. With the Jazz though, with new technology like the CVT its probably gonna be an expensive fix for OEM parts, so I figure that $700 will pay for itself if even just one thing goes wrong.
I was quoted I think around $2k for a complete CVT unit replacement including labour.. covered under warranty you don't have to sweat.

When it "clicks" you can feel the steering suddenly so light for about 10cm of travel. It only happens when you steer opposite direction at low speed.
