View Full Version : help with squeeling sound when i drop the clutch above 5500rpm any ideas?
Ive got a civic Gli and when i pull to 5500rpm+ a slight squeeling sound can be heard for say half a second when i drop the clutch to change gear. ive heard of belt slipping probs at high rpms for the powersteering and aircon? (ive got know idea how true this is). the sound it makes sounds exactly how i imagine a slipping belt may sound, its like a faint squeeling of a cars wheels but quieter. im thinking maby the sudden decrease of rpm when i step on the clutch and let go of the throttle, makes the belts suddenly decrease speed, causing a belt pully being driven by the belt to slip ahead with the rotational momentum its carrying. i would appreciate any views on what the problem may be. cheers

Which car have you got? it wouldn't be a Vti SOHC would it?
COs that model is a belt driven Vtec model.

not all of the GLi are CVT, and CVT doesnt have a clutch :)
I recon its your thrust bearing

Umm autos dont have clutches, and autos dont use belt... so it aint that.
id have to agree with ECU-man

dude on a different subject
Honda autos do use clutches, just not a mechanical one to control drive, your right there is a tourqu converter, however in the auto it self is 4 clutches for a 4 speed
CVT auto uses a steel belt in side and a start clutch and a band.
just some useless info for you :)

oops it was late.
What i MENT to say is...
Autos dont have clutches that the drives can control, but he sayd he drops the clutch, thus its not Auto. And since its not an auto, its not a CVT gearbox, thus doesnt have belts.
my bad

I would say that the engine fan belts have a stuffed bearing somewhere.
I would bet the air-con tensioner pulley belt, as no doubt just starting to use the air-con with summer heat, the noise only just starts to occur after a lack of use.

Being that his particular engine uses a electric motor and not a mechanical belt to drive the fan I doubt this. As ECU-MAN I think it would be the thrust baring.
