Hi fellas
As some of u know, i recently got som 20" chrome rims on my car.
now when i took it on the M2/M7 today, when the needle on the speedo passed 100km/h, the steering wheel started shaking. not violently, but enuff to see that it was actucally vibrating....
how do u fix this sort of problem? (im inclined to think its got somethin to do with my rims as i never had this problem back when i had my 17s)

Your wheels might need balancing again as well as an alignment, it probably wasn't done properly first time round...

Good Luck :)

P.S, I'll move this to the tech section :)

nah sounds like nick is right mate. take it in for a wheel balance and alignment.

also with the 20's you will find you feel more of the road and the car will prolly follow the camber of the road more

hmm
when i got my rims fitted apparently balancing and fitting was part of the price i paid
does my steering wheel have to be realigned?

well are the rims new or 2nd hand??

just get the wheels balanced again

probably they stuck those wheel weights in wrong places.
which make the wheel balnce go wacko causing steering wooble

Or the locator rings are not fitted, which is often the case with aftermarket rims. They are left off to save the hassle of fitting, and because the rim doesnt "hug" the hub properly you get minor vibrations when driving at speeds..

Also check brake clearances, and any suspension near the area to see that it has plenty of clearance (front AND rear)

Good luck with it. Hopefully it'll be something as simple as the balance or the locator rings and not the offset.

get a balance anyway its not gonna hurt. With every set of new tyres your supose to get an alignment.

u need a WHEEL ALIGNMENT. When quoted for fittment of tyres they include a WHEEL BALANCE and fitting of the Tyres to the rims, but NOT a wheel alignment. If you have 20" rubber i'd suggest a wheel alignment every 4-6 months to ensure you dont chew your tyers and waste $$$$.

wheel alignment will do the world of good..

sometimes wheel weights fall off as well

Id say rims like yours would have double sided tape type weights

it took my car three wheel balances to get it right
they did a half assed job of balancing and being a big rim its heavyer and will be more noticable if not balanced properly

id say get a wheel balance and alignment but your wheels will give you more road feel i get heaps even through 17s
