I was driving my missus's mum's Jazz in Malaysia and being so hot, the air con is always on, then one day, this squealing sound came out for no reason whenever the air con is on and it's been there since... Could it be the belt or something??

Advice and ways to rectify the problem would be appreciated heaps so that when I go back to Malaysia, I can try and fix it...

CHEERS in advance....

Air conditioner belt is rooted more than likely. If they squeel when the A/C is on then it's generally because of that

yeah it either needs a tightening or you jsut need a new aircon belt.

as the other guys said, sounds to me like the air-con belt may be too tight. If it has been like this for a long time, simply replacing the belt may not fix the problem as the bearings in your A/C compressor may have been damaged from the extra tension on the belt.

another quick fix option is to spray some teflon lubricant onto your belt - this may loosen it up a little and prevent the audible noise, but this will not fix the problem and you may still wear out the bearings.

its either the belt has come loose or the belt is stuffed it also could be a worn pulley bearing

Yeah used to happen to my Civic, I got my mech to tighten the AC belt and it was fine after that.

You could probably do it yourself if you follow the Haynes Jazz maintanence manual. Its not hard to do from what I have gathered.

Too tight or too loose... check belt for cracks or tears. Spray a little wd40 inbetween the pulley and compressor.

spraying wd40 will work for a few days but will eventually wear off and start sqealling again

WD40 = lubricant. Don't know why you'd spray that on the belt when you want the belt to grip the pulley !?!?

it actually stops the squeals for a few days but its not a permanent fix.

No one said spray the belt. I said in between the pulley and the compressor. And WD40 will last a while not just a few days. If you all have it down there which I bet you do get some white grease and goop it up. It will work its way in and last a while.
