Hey Guys,
My car Euro has just covered a tad over 18,000km and has seemed to developed this very strange noise.
When I reverse park into my drive way or when I park my car I notice if I need to fully turn the steering wheel in either direction I get this very strange creaking noise thats sounds far from healthy, it sounds like its coming from steering rack but not sure any ideas what it could be ?

same specs as my euro. mine just clocked over 18,000 but its an 05.
thats a lot like whats happening with my one as well, onyl its to 1 side.
when i full lock the steering wheel to the right, i hear the noise too. its rather loud as well. its not the brakes and im inclined to think its the steering rack too.

Well Im on OEM 16" rims as well so it has nothing to do with wheel size then.
The problem is of a great concern to me as it seems to be getting worse .
I know as well its not brakes.
My car will be in for service soon will make sure they tech guys will look at it.

can you "feel" the noise through the steering wheel?
My GF mazda3 has some major groaning/squeaking suspension noises coming from the front. Not good at all
No probs with my Euro tho

hmm...
could be your CV joint.....jack up ur car and check both the inner and outer CV joints....if the CV boot is torn, it could be an indication ur cv joint is busted...
another way is to find an open area, put ur car in reverse, turn the steering wheel all the way to side, and start reversing in a circle...if u hear the creaking sound as u reverse then yeh...
also check ur sway bar too...i remember when i went road tripping once and bent the sway bar, and it made an awful creaking sound similar to that of a busted CV joint...

Good call very high probability of CV joint I would say - and CV Joint noise problem kind of has a rhythm from my past experience - does it pulsate slightly?
Otherwise might be Power Steering problem?

i think the noise is from the power steering. though i haven't got this problem yet from my 05 euro running around 13000kms, i previously owned a lancer and in the owner's manual it stated that noise may be heard when steering is on full lock and should not be at full lock position for more than i think 10 or 15 secs......
and i thought only cheaper cars might have this problem...... but i won't worry about it too much though, if anything, go back to dealer.....
hope it helps......

Kinda off topic but the noise in my GF's car was the lower control arm bolt.... MAzda had forgotten to retighten it after some wty work... not happy Jan

i've noticed this as well on my euro. At full steering lock when going forward/reverse the car makes a loudish grinding sound and you can feel it through the steering wheel.
Did you guys get it fixed under warranty?

i doubt it would be the CV joint or boot. seriously, the car has only done 18000km!
Just take it in and get it fixed under warranty- the beauty of having a new car with warranty!

I had my 20K Service 2 months ago I told them of the noise but they could not find it :(
I still have geat the creaking from time to time, at my next service will advise the service team to look at it more closer.

This is SO old... but just what I was looking for coz I had the same problem with my Euro!!
I took it back to Honda service and the whole day they couldn't find the noise, I had to leave work early and come show them - which I did.
Apparently they say that its normal and that every other Euro makes that noise as well and that its a safety mechanism that helps release the pressure of steering when the wheel is in full lock. They say that I shouldn't put it in full lock coz it's bad for it (but sometimes its sorta hard when the parking spot is tight!) and that if u release it from full lock just a tad, it should stop making that noise.
So... in the end, nothing had to be fixed under warranty and said that if I wasn't satisfied, to let them know to call a Honda Australia representative to test it. *Shrugs* Well.. what can I say??

Normal? pfft I put my 06 Euro in full lock everyday and its always silky smooth. Although the car is moving when I do it. Doing it at a stand still can put a lot of stress on steering and CV components.
Maybe the steering column mechanism under the dash needs a lube

Well I never seemed to notice that problem with the steering being in full lock and only really started becoming a problem to my ears sometime last year. I got the Euro when it first came out '03 so maybe they did have this problem and the '06 doesn't... or maybe it just hasn't kicked in yet? *shrugs* Do I look like a mechanic to u? :p jk

I have a 05 Luxury and on occasion I hear the same thing, it is more of a creaking noise and a shudder though, really weird and only 22k on the clock! Only happens at full lock and not all of the time!

I was describing it more like a knocking sound! haha who knows *shrugz*

that dont put it in full lock is horse... cars are made to steer if they didnt want it in full lock they would put some steering nudge or spacer or sumthing to stop it from going into full lock if they didnt want it there... *cough cough* opinions are free from "Mr Opinion"
Shudders occur in full lock with most cars my misses has the 06 civic they do it too, its just the pressure having to send the steering fluid from one side to the other or middle to the other maybe...88 accords do it lol (good comparison there) bigger fluid lines might help hmmmm

Shuddering is normal as it is the PS pump working. But it shouldn't knock. Do you get the knocking sound when moving or stationary with full lock?

OMG i have the exact same problem!!!
so its not just me.. mine started off as a humming noise when i put it at full lock and then grinding.. sounds really bad because it keeps going until u stop putting it at full lock.. not healthy.
i'm servicing my car next week gonna have them have a look at it, should i put my stock rims back on because they might blame my 17'?

If your 17" tyres are the same (or very close <1%) diameter as the 16" tyres then they can't blame the wheels.
I have 17" honda rims on my euro std and dont have this steering problem at all.

That's normal. Happens to my Euro at full lock as well and it is the PS steering pump working away. Full lock is not good for your CV joints, so don't use it too often and try never to use full lock and accelerate hard.

oh i see, so its not actually a problem?
it hasn't happened much (because i rarely go full lock) but some of the times that i have it has hummed.
but its good to know that its normal and something isn't breaking down there.

nope.. not just u.. glad its not just me either! haha
wow... talk about reviving this thread.. i did it, ME! hahaha
but yeh, it only happens when i'm trying to park a tight spot so the car is moving a little.. not stationary and not completely moving if u know what i mean! coz its the only time i'd put it in full lock! :(
