View Full Version : 95 Accord V6 SRS controller - expendable following deployment?

I can't get a consistent answer from local Honda dealers and independent shops on this one. I've gotten confilicting responses, all stated confidently!
I'm finishing up the repairs on my '95 EX V6, which will include replacing the deployed air bags with salvaged, never-deployed bags. However, I can't seem to get a straight answer as to whether the SRS controller will function OK following a reset, or whether it is shot after one deployment.
If anyone can answer this question with extreme confidence, I'd be most grateful.
Keep in mind, this is the V6 controller.
Thanks,
Lou

you cannot rest the SRS ECU.
it must be replaced after air bags have been deployed. no other way
are you on the US by any chance ???

Yes, I'm in the US. NC = North Carolina.
This is a bummer because the SRS controller was replaced only one year ago when I had a "hot" SRS light that wouldn't stay reset.
I'm an engineer and would love to see a schematic of the SRS controller if one was available. I'm sure I could replace whatever component needs replacement, assuming it was available.

Hi Lou
no doubt you could.
Honda SRS ECU's use two types of G sensors that I have seen.
one is the gel type, a weight rips the gel andmake a contact at a predetermin G rating,
the other is a roll out weight that touches a contact when G forces are exeeded. the MCU detects it and calculates things for deployment. Accord SRS ECUs use this method. the G sensor of this type is reuseable.
Honda had a recall on SRS ECU's, and I was able to cut a few open once apon a time.
my guess the MCU wrights a code in some non volitile EEPORM or MCU RAM space to set the ECU to deployed mode.
I know AUDI, SAAB, MERC, most European cars can have the SRS ECU reset, I have seen some russian software out there that does it.
I wish you best of luck
