just a quick question for anyone that knows...is the d16y8 manifold on the 94 model vti's the same as the d16y8 manifold on the 96-98 civics...etc the throttle that leads to the main throttle is it bigger/smaller if they are different would anyone be able to tell me differences.. etc

??? do you mean is the d16y4 manifold on 94 vti the same as the d16y8 manifold on 96-98 civics? from my knowledge the d16y8 only came from the 96-98 civic coupe.... i could b wrong tho

i think he means the D16y1 manifold on the 94 Vti's

so basically we are comparing both SOHC VTEC's

the y8 apparently is the best one.

ok thnx question answered lol... would the d16y8 manifold fit str8 on my 94 model vti civic?

LOL yeah the Y8 intake manifold is the most superior of the D-series.. it's a fat-ass bitch !!

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you shoudl read more if you thing a D16Y8 is better than a D16Y1

Good place to start :p
http://www.d-series.org/forums/?

The Y8 intake manifold is better maybe but not the engine :D

lukezen i had ppl off the Dseries forum tell me the same thing its the better of the intake manifolds for the D series :D thnx anyways.

Yeah I'd rather a Y1 than a Y8 anyday, but we're talking intake manifolds here and the Y8 manifold has proven to be the highest flowwing in stock form of any of the D-series manifolds... Y8 intake manifold on a Y1... especially if you're boosting.

having said that, the Y1 intake manifold is by far the best of the EG-generation D-series..

Cool

I'd like to see what difference it will make on D16Y1?

dont waste ur time upgrading to a y8 manifold. just go skunk2 IMO.

tryn to save abita doee weq lol how much do the skunk 2 manifolds go for??

hrm.. yeah but IMO a Y8 intake manifold with say an Extrude Hone (etc) fior the $$$ would be a great option. only benefit I could see for the extra $$$ for the Skunk2 manifold would be that it's altready set up to take a larger (than stock) Throttle Body (please correct me if i'm wrong).

but weq if you look at his plans it sounds like a budget/DIY project for ponies so I doubt a few hundred on a skunk manifold would be money better spent than a free or CHEEP CHEEP Y8 manifold.. sometime just buying the bling parts isnt an option or isnt wanted.

also point to note - changing to a Y8 or Skunk2 manifold isnt going to give very noticable power gains without being complimentary to a host of other headwork and ECU tuning..

^^^ true.. too little of difference to care about.

so putting a y8 intake and exhaust manifold will increas power on my y1?
what else can i get of it?

what increase would i expect?

fadz
11-01-2006, 07:28 AM
Not much of an increase lol... i think u gota consider bouring both the throttle and the intake manifold...too actually feel a difference??

what about the d16a8 inlet manifold ? it looks to be almost twice the size of the earlier vti engine - then again i havent seen the inlet for a later vti or measured the runners length in comparison etc...

u know anyone who's put one on a d16y1 benn???

nup - not here or overseas either. Prob due to the fact the a8 isnt so common or there is another reason peopel done use this inlet manifold on y1's or whatever. Its something to think about tho -

hmm...interesting point, il speak to my performance mechanic see wat he says
thanks for the idea bro.
