so i only brought my first civic about 6 months ago and its been running sweet ever since. however today, went to start it and nothing :S

battery was totally dead - i had left nothing on that may have drained it the bastard just wouldnt start.

mechanic said the battery was about 6 years old, replaced it now it runs fine.

im just wondering if anyone has had similar probs and if this sounds all above board cos being a girl, its pretty wasy ro get rolled by mechanics.

any advice will help :)

well if it was 6yrs old, i dont doubt it ran dead. probably dropped a cell or 2. keep and eye on it though. did he test ur alternator? this is the only other thing id do when a battery goes dead. make sure it isnt the culprit.

6years! Thats long for a battery.
I change mine every 2 or 3 years, but then again - I have an 800watt 12" Subwoofer ;)

My Alternator is still the original one, after 250000km, its still going well (I think lol).

The exact same thing happened to me 2 days ago! My batt just died of old age I think as I hadnt left lights on either.

Guy came and jump started, I went home, got a new battery from Kmart and chucked it in and everything is fine now.

alternator is fine was just the battery, now im realising why it seemed to be lacking in some areas lately - now it runs perfectly - lol go the kmart batteries!
