I got tired of 3D Modelling for my uni and decided to try and remove the resonator again in preparation for the K&N Typhoon CAI...

Check out how BIG this is! Compare that against the caliper.. and it's heavy too..

Took the car for a spin.. felt no difference at all.. increase in intake sound was negligible.. performance-wise, NIL...

I'll let you guys know when the REAL DEAL goes in tomorrow.. heeheeheehee...

Well Good Morning once again, after bumming around with more work, I decided to cut the foglight covers out... It's a simple DIY and dodgy job using the Dremel, luckily the neighbours did not complain LOL (6am in the morning!).. Gave it a good file with wet sandpaper and here is the end product of the intake opening for the Filter...

Will give it another file later in the day.. hands are dying...

I had a nice run with the car tonight on the Eastern Freeway (not breaking the speed limit type)..

I do now realise, without the resonator, at 2800 to about 3500RPM, the induction noise is actually very loud now... it sounds like a medium/heavy drone in the engine bay, not the farting type, but sounds quite cool...

Here It Is!

K & N Typhoon CAI For The Euro Accord Installed...

Installation Time : 1 Hour 30 Mins including smoking and drinking breaks
Ease Of Installation : Easy
Looks Department : SEXY
Noise Department : Suction noise high at warm ups due to higher revs, slightly higher over OEM at operating temperature
Revs : Loud and Nice, changes the exhaust note until it sounds like a slight fart now LOL :D :D :D

ISSUES : Positive Battery Cable rubs against the SRI pipe..:(

Edit:
*ROADTEST*
Car sounds fantastic and loud at 3000RPM upwards and at WOT, no such thing as a quiet interior anymore. Slight interior drone felt. Massive drone at high RPM with WOT.
Seems to lose out a bit on the low end power.
High end revs are fantastic, revs more freely
Low end with WOT sounds better over OEM.
Piping still cool at the end of the Roadtest

Overall impression = 9/10
Lost one point to the fact that cleaning the filter is not easy.... :P

can you post a pic of the car front on?.... and a pic of the engine bay whole?.... would water get to the filter through that hole?

Nice one :)

I can say that it sounds pretty much the same for the lude also. I installed mine about 2 months ago and phwoar, the difference in engine noise was awesome.

Thats the intake done....now just need to do the header and exhaust :D

You won't be able to see any difference front even though I cut out the cover as the filter is black.

The filter sits directly behind the cut out and yes, there is the issue of water running into the filter and that's where the DryCharger comes in, it supposingly stops the penetration of water, how I do not know but I will check it out when I take it out for a clean :)

I will post a photo of the whole engine bay up as requested.

Yeah it's the black sleeve that goes over the filter....

It only prevents loose water or droplets.. I don't think it stops water in a flood situation LOL... I'm gonna have a play around with it the next time I take it out for a wash..

I got Rocket Industries to order in via air freight for me, the kit is AUD$380 including Tax and GST and cost nothing for freight as it will come with other orders they have(Around 6-8 weeks delivery). I asked for air freight which costs AUD$100(less than 2 weeks)...

I've spoken to them and they said they can do something for group buys..

does the K&N intake kit still work with the OEM/luxury fog lights?? if not, are there any other kits available that are designed to work with the fog lights?

thanks
Rod

i think you may be able to fit the filter behind the fog light? but it would sort of defeat the purpose of having the air flowing through from the frontbar.... its best to remove the fog light anyway :D

The Kit was designed to provide lower intake temp to the engine and by installing it behind the foggy, it serves it's purpose, since I have no foggies on the car, I cut out the fog light cover to provide more air for the intake.. but in general, K&N designed it to work better over the OEM intake system even without me cutting up the foglight cover.

REVIVAL...

Removed my front bar to re-install my headlights and mesh the radiator, thought I take a photo or two, maybe three.....

Been running a K&N/Apexi hybrid set up for a while now...

It's still running off the Typhoon system but with an Apexi pod instead....

Filter.... It sits lower because of the Adaptor that is required....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/EuroAccord13/EuroAccord/KAndNApexiHybrid/W1.jpg

And it fits inside my crinkled K&N Dry Charger!

Before you ask if my butt dyno made a difference, the answer is I don't know until I slap that thing on the Dyno when I continue development of the ECU...

It's only slightly louder BTW.....

Yup, that's the ghetto one. All the benefits of CAI but without the low RPM power loss and risk of hydrolock. hehehe.
