hey there ppl..
just wondering, whats the best filters for hondas ?
as in pod filter, i hear alot of different things from different ppl, just wanted to see what you guys think...
i heard Stainless mesh ones are good (hks)
- apexi power intake
- foam filter hks style
- k&n
etc etc.. what works best u rkn ?
i m using a apexi pod filter, and i m happy with that :)
more power gain after 4000rpm and the vtec kick in sound really loud, but the only thing is i dunno how to clean it lolzzzzzzzzz ...
K&N, BMC .. they should be good, cox u can clean and re-use them
HKS and Blitz filter ... um ... foam and steel mesh filter, never try b4, but ppl say can't block much dirty, which is not good for the engine ...

is ur apexi one the power intake ?
my vote (as always) is for K&N... the Apexi is essentially the same as a dual-tract K&N filter as it's the same cotton-gauze construction.. I THINK K&N is the OEM manufacturer for Apexi filters POSSIBLY.. they have the same quality.. but you're paying extra for the 'Apexi' brandname.
whatever you do I dont reccomend FOAM style filters like HKS/GREDDY/SPOON etc. they are VERY good for performance, however they do let a fair degree of fine dust through their 'holes' and tack-oil is much messier to service than good ol' regular K&N style filter oil.. I've removed foam filters and insopected the inside of intake tubes and throttle bodies to find a LOT of dust and grime compared to basically none from K&N.
ya u r righht .. its apexi power intake, by the way, apexi is diferent with K&N
Apexi is dry (cotton, fiber, paper ... i dunno) but K&N one is wet cotton filter, u have to apply filter oil on to the K&N one

*agrees*
I have a TRUST replacement foam filter in my EG civic for the last 2 years or so ~ works great when freshly clean BUT gets dirty really quickly.
If you do have one make sure to clean and re-oil properly.

what ever you choose i reccomend that you try to enclose it in some way or at least try to get a cold air feed to it because you wont be extracting the maximum amount of power out of the filter and it may even send you backwards on the power charts

Apparently not with ITG filters which are foam and can hold higher dust loads and still perform

Iv got an Apexi pod and it hasnt made that much of a difference to normal driving (i have to really rev it to feel a difference). The good think about it, like others have said is the nice induction noise. Iv read heaps of threads on filters and its all pretty subjective and inconclusive... so im guessing it varies, depending on what ur values are? :) Thats my two cents...

i got the apexi power intake, and i read that it requires very little maintainance. it works well for me, and i love the noise it makes when u rev the engine. u can also hear a nice suction noise at idle.

The Apexi is supose to be the best filtration one. The K & N ones are also good.
The Apexi is a dry type filter so all you need to do is wash it in abit of detergent and clean then dry it. The K&N one uses an oil base so you need one of the K&N filter recharge kits to properly clean and oil it.
The stainless steel ones are not as good cos they don't filter so well, i had one before, i got dust on the inside of the pipes.

i dun think u can re-wash Apexi filter... as for the foam filters, after a while the foam tends to get harden... i would say k&n is the best.... simota filter did a test through an independant firm in usa and concluded that their filters filter better than k&n now (look under simota website)

yeah i totally agree the foam filters wen u du try to clean them they harder also
if u dont treate them rite the dirt from air that hits it slowly breaks off the foam -_- considering wat u are payin for
i will personally go for a k&n and a simota one
currently i have a simota one and a k&n one i like both of them both very good should consider them they are reasonably priced too especially the simota one it works a charm dont be fooled by brands

Dose anybody have a BMC CDA setup... ive head they work exceptionally well, but at a $600 price tag.....

its also a compleatly legal indcution kit that performs better then most of the other brands..
(just going off what the rep said)

I use Apex'i power intake and it's great.
Apparently not the best in power gains but it cleans the best.
HKS mushroom and mesh type apparently don't clean the air well at all.

i've used the blitz pods on both my honda and Ford, they are very loud and are low maintenance and after about 6mths of use i still found the inside of the intake pipes clean as. As for performance gains nothing dramatic just the throttel is a bit more responsisve.

I had one of those and the police heard the suction noise while I was driving by, they stopped me and defected my car. I had to get a K&N stock filter replacement in the OEM box instead.
Can they do this? Whats the use of modding the engine, when the cops can simply defect you for anything non-standard?
Are there ways around this? Like maybe gete an Engineers certificate or something?

yes that is the apexi power intake, i got its for $280 including tube and installation from www.shiftpeformance.com.au
the chance of getting defect is rare, can u tell us more info on where this occur and how? ie. did u rev ur engine?.. I guess the best alternative is getting the K&N stock air filter or the mugen one, unless you have some way of covering ur pod with a stock air box.. preferrable black. dont know what they will say about the stainless steel intake tube.. thats legal right?
funny thing is i know many people with pod filters. they always let you off for the first time anyways, so thats a good thing.

No I wasnt revving or anything, the pod was noisy even at low revs. It occured after the Cahill express way before entering Kings Cross (where those naval ships are). The front left light was out, but they didnt really take notice until they heard the hissing noise.
But anyway, the K&N stock replacement is just as good IMO.

Simota also paid the "independant" firm to test the products

I used both HKS and Apexi Filter. I love HKS filter. But i am using K&N due to the Kit.
the SIMOTA filters are PAPER element !! they are designed to LOOK like K&N cotton filters but they are disposable PAPER items.. thus the $20-40 pricetag !! and yeah you can put ANYTHING you like on a website and people will believe it.. like someone on here's old signature --> the internet - the most reliable source of unreliable information.
K&N Hands down, especially cause when you get board of it you can burn out the cotton with a BlowTorch for fun!

old chinese saying "the owner of the florist shop will always say her roses smell the best" i have used the simota before, after i washed it, damn thing broke in half. since then i use k&n xtreme. washed it heaps of times, no probs what so eva. betta flow n FILTRATION compared to simota.
:) personal opinion:)

Has anybody tried a CDA? from BMC? supost to be alot better then a pod filter and you can easily addapt a CAI to it!
mate of mine had one on his (dont laugh) a hyndai accent. he has seen tests that a 12kw gain was made... though i havent seen it my self...

what about the ones that have extended arms ... and dip the airfilter down the bottom of your engin ... does that get considerd as defect ... and how is it in performance wise ... like all the heat soak and dirt going in it from the bottom of the car ...
