View Full Version : should i reset my ECU?

ive just recently installed a full CAI on my `93 integra and whilst installing it, me and my friend didnt reset my ECU. ive been driving it for about a month now with the CAI...is this bad? i heard that i should have of resetted the ECU so the car gets used to the new intake system.so should i reset it? if so where do i start in resetting the ECU?

dont worry about it now. Your ECU has "adjusted" , if at all by now.

Resetting your ECU is to clear a ECU code , or start the ECU in regards to a new breathing/exhaust mod.

so itd be ok??...coz some of my friends are still telling i shuda resetted it. so within the month ive been driving it shud have of adjusted by now right?

yes and no.. obd2 constantly re-learns but obd1 aint so dynamic. I find it's good practice to re-set your obd1 ecu every 2-3 months to allow for mods, engine condition, and fluctuatuion in weather and barometric conditions.

the difference is minimal so dont expect a 20WHP gain from re-setting your ECU - you CAN expect that it should run smoother and be more fuel efficient.

how do i reset my ECU? just unhook my battery for around 10mins? that should do it right?

howz it goin dude, umm i got sum troubles i had a b16a vtec conversion done 2 my civic eg and this code 15 comes up and doesnt allow my car to start, some times it does but when code 15 comes up it wont, got any ideaz on how 2 fix this problem?? please let me noe a.s.a.p. cheerz

hrmm better 2 start a new thread in the civic forum on OH. i wudnt have a clue. hopefully some of the mods or members such as bennjamin can help u out. sorry man.

just a quick but may sound stupid question, what is a CAI ? is that one of those bmc cannons?

i doubt it wulkd be Okk ,coz wen i took my cai intake off last week and just left it for a short ram intake for a day, i culdn even hear vtec in the short ram intake whilst soon as i put the cai bak on...u culd hear the vtec loud and clear again...i think u deffinatly have to reset anyways thats my 2 cents...

you DONT need to reset the ECU.

Thats a very wrong misconception.
