In the near future i'll be building up a Westfield kit car.....BUT just to make my life difficult i've decided not to go down the normal path with a toyota 4AGE :)

now i've narrowed my choices down to either a H22A or a F20C

H22A has slightly less power but more torque and at lower rev's, seems to be a bit more useable power with plenty of scope for more :) (and driving a prelude with a H22Z1 i know what the power delivery is like)

the problem arrises as the H22A is mounted E-W from teh factory where as it would have to be mounted N-S in the Westfield. This brings it's own problems to over come, most of which i've worked out :) (i hope)

my main concern is the g'box, what can i use?
i've heard honda engines sping the oposite way to most other engines so i can't (or it would be difficult) to mate on another manifactures box...unless i want to have 5 reversing gears! :D

Could the 6sp from the S2000 be mated on?
is there any other options?

Thanks
Shane

Mating the H22A to a F20 gearbox will most probably be a pain in the arse and cost you $$$ IMO.

I suggest just saving the hassle and go for the F20C (unless you have spare change).

that was the other concideration

the F20C is going to be much more expensive than the H22A....but then pricing in the muckin around to mate a g'box to the H22A.
if the only box is the F20C 6sp then i'd just get the F20C to begin with

are their any other N-S honda mounted engines that the g'box could be used from?

is it true that honda engines spin oposite to other engines?

H22 spins "wrong" way tho the S2000 motor spins the "right" way

Go F20c. It's easier and for such a light car, a lack of low end torque will be less obvious. And if it is a track-only car, low rpm is something that your engine will rarely see.

so the S2000's g'box couldn't be mated to the H22A then anyway!

hmmmm, stretching my ideas now!

aaronng (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/member.php?u=1457): it will be road legal/registered...although i don't do much driving anyway.
Although as said, in something that weighs about 600kg's a lack of low down torque won't be as noticable

mate the f20c is a way better engine than the h22a

drive a s2000 and a prelude vtiR and im sure you will be blown away by the f20c

smaller, lighter, more powerfull and of course revs huge

yeah......sif rev to like just over 7k rpm and have to change gears!

if u were gona do something like that, id say go with the F20c, i think the f20c is a smaller engine and lighter than the h22a.

the f20c is gonna save a lot of hassle.
and dont worry about the low down lack of torque of the engine. in a s2000 which weighs ~ 1500kg its still super responsive (i guess due to the high CR) so in a car as light as a westfield it will be nuts, let alone how good it will be at high rpm.
and yeah, if you havent yet drivn an s2000 do it. it will make up your mind for you.

thanks for the info people! :)

seems the F20C is a better option then!

can anyone direct me to a site that would have F20C engine + box for sale?
or know the rough price i'd be looking at for one?

Thanks
Shane
