So VTI is not superior to the GLI in terms of performance?

It go's in the order of

Cxi
Gli
Vti
Vti-R

Cxi and Gli have same engines (non vtec), just various features.

Vti is a Single Over Head Cam VTEC (SOHC)
Vti-R is a Double Over Head Cam VTEC (DOHC)

cxi is technically faster than gli if we talk about weights - cxi has no power options
