ok i know how they work and all but i heard from some ppl that changing gears with a short shifter is a bit stiffer/harder to get into gear.

just wanted to know what ppl have to say about that based on there experience with driving one.

thanks ;)

i've got a short shifter on mine, and yes it's a bit hard to get into gear and stiffer as well. But i still enjoy it, though sometimes trying to downshift to 2nd is a bit hard

ok
i installed the short shifter into my car myself,
and the stiffness depends on how tight you bolt.
the first time round, i didnt know and did it as tight as i could, and had to move the gaerstick with full force..
so i loosened the bolt and it became too easy, so i tightened it a bit.

Think about it this way:

The more leverage you have, the less force required. So when you get a short shifter, you shorten the leaver, hence increase the force needed.

Sorry to hijack... but what is the deal with short shifters possibly wrecking g'boxes?? Synchros to be more specific......

I used to hear people talk about short shifters doing this and was wondering why this was....

shifters dont wreck gboxes....poor driving technique does.

hmmmm this is interesting...... so from that response I gather that peeps that put a short shifter in and then usually are more agressive with their shifting that potentially wrecks the g'boxes???

Because there is more force that is needed to get into a gear, you can sometimes get a little "excited" and use a little too much force. Thats what he is driving at ;)

Because you are not supposed to shift faster than the synchromesh wants you to....so if you have a short shifter, its easier to shift a lot quicker....so u fuk up the synchros.
