i've heard one off turbod16.com and it was made to sound like a turkey..
i reckon the most popular is the HKS SSQV bov..
but try the Greddy Type S bov.. sounds about the same but i think sounds better..

SSQ is popular.. not super dooper loud, but sounds cool with the tu tu tu at low boost, but at high boost changes and goes WHOOSH, which is cool, so 2 sounds for the price of one.
type-s is in your ear loud, a golf gti went past me once, and i had the window down and it was seriously loud, nearly blew me ear off.
And it'll have the "look at me" type of thing, if u want that...
Then... I think theres the Apexi one, im not sure if it is that one or not, but it has this sort of electronic sound.. its realli funni, doesnt sound like a BOV,so u could get that for being different, but its either Apexi twin chamber BOV OR Blitz im not quite sure though, however I've heard people tell me the Blitz BOV is just a straight whoosh...

When shopping for my bf's BOV, i found that Greddy Type S sounds a bit funny.. high pitched, a bit sharp... and also the HKS SSQV has interchangable fins to get different sounds. :)

Turbosmart or GFB make whistling BOV similar to the high pitched "Ttiiiilll"

Your thinking the VTEC induction noise
The tu tu tu noise is ment to mimic an internal wastegated turbo or wastegate flutter as they call it.
Personally feel that if you need to let everyone know you have a turbo by having a loud BOV you also need to make sure your car aint defectable in any way. Cos the cops are going to be looking.

Meh, bov's are so 2005, lol.
IMO external wastegate and a screamer at WOT. Cant beat it, sounds ferocious, if someone can tell me how to post up a video i've got one of a 550hp 180sx at WOT with external gate and screamer, sounds the shit!!

please tell me your not running 6-8 pound boost cause if you are your bov will always sound pissant. Thats why stock turbos dont run then cause there is no use at low boost its more a look at me thing.
An yes car companys could use them an still comply as now have ones that vent into the manifold an not the atmosphere

I heard a BOV on a Jap GT car while watching a DVD (think High Octane). It was yellow R34 GT-R from a Jap engineering shop. Sounded like metal hitting metal (in a good way). Nothing like I've heard before. Totally diff to the HKS, Apexi, Turbosmart, Greddy's etc. Anyone know what that is?

the 'tu tu tu tu' noise is from the actuator wastegate, or otherwise known as the above.

What the **** is an "actuator wastegate". The noise has nothing to do with the wastegate. It is the compressed air slipping past the compressor blades as it is still rotating.

you should have heard the indy cars a few years back exactly what your sayin. we stay on track an the sound is so bad u have to get away for a while somtimes.but you could still hear then for miles sounded like metal could not make sutch a big noise without something breaking

sorry its the wastegate actuator, and if you dont know what it is, you can google it noob.

So please explain to me how it can possibly make a noise even remotely sounding like air rushing through a hole, if it does not come in contact with any air in the charge pipes?

just get a turbosmart andjustable bov so you can make it sound however you want.

lol. When on the throttle the turbo spools up and compresses air forcing it into the throttle body. When the throttle is let off the throttle body flap closes and the air being forced into the throttle body basically hits a brick wall (throttle body flap) causing pressure to build and the air is pushed back through the turbo blades . As the air gets pushed back through the blades it goes "tu tu tuu tuu".
A wastegate actuator is used to limit boost. There's a hole on the exhaust side of a turbo which is covered by a flap which is connected to a rod which is connected to the wastegate actuator. A turbo uses exhaust gases to spin the turbos fin on the exhuast side, so (on most stock Nissans) when 7psi is reached the wastegate actuator pushes the rod which opens the flap so that the exhaust gases flow out the hole instead of continuing to spin the fins which prevents the turbo from creating more boost.

^^^wastegate prevents overboost, which even though it sounds really cool in "warp speed doctor spok" kind of way, is really, really bad for your engine. Detonation anyone?!?

^^^basically gives airflow an exit at WOT rather than cramming excess through the snail. (turbo)

No it doesn't. It redirects exhaust past the turbine blades, not compressed intake air past back into pre-turbo intake.
Option B is possible, and usually used on positive displacement superchargers such as roots, but in the case of a turbo, would cause excess axel speeds and probable loss of efficiency.
The "tu tu tu" noise has nothing to do with wastegates. An engine without a wastegate can and will still make the same noise under the same circumstances.

lol, i really don't think you should be buying a bov for the noise it makes but rather its functionality......
each to their own though, if you really want a noise which no one else has, i think its impossible. but if you want a unique noise which differs from your everyday bov just go the ssqv or the type s. btw, the add on trumpet for the gfb's do hardly anything so don't bother with those :P

It's not impossible... Run no BOV. You will get a noise which is pretty unique..

Sure the fact that your running without isnt unique, but the sound sure is. Car to car, it will sound much more unique than any off the shelf BOV will car to car.
ARC BOV's sound wicked. mates got one on his 32 and is running 1.8 bar and sounds fu**in awesome!!!!!!!!!
