Always wanted to know the answer to this.

The accord euro is the only car I have ever driven that the coolant temp is always just a bit below the middle.

I have driven many cars and most stay in the middle range some cars even just a bit above the middle range.

But the euro always just below the middle.

Anyone know why ?

It is a good thing though!

Different cars have different limits to how they gauge their normal car operating temperature, I won't be too concerned about it. If it worries you, the Ford Falcon's normal operating temperature is like 1/3 up on the gauge... :)

The gauge is not a 0-200 gauge for all cars. Usually the scale is different for all cars with the middle point being the "comfortable" operating temperature.

The thermostat for the K24A3 engine begins to open at 76-80°C and by 90°C, it is fully open. So this should be the operating temperature.

I always drive with the digital coolant temp readout displaying and you shouldn't be too concerned. On average it sits around 86-88C but when driven hard or on mountain roads I've seen it climb to about 110C (F1 - displayed). All the while the needle barely moves at all from below half. If you begin to see the needle anywhere above 1/2, then I'd begin to get concerned. As to the accuracy? That's anybody's guess!

all you have to do is get some aftermarket digital meter and connected to the ecu and BANG.....there's your temperature. Obviously get the one that does show temperature.

pls note, not all meters support all cars, and even if they do, they may not be tested for particular models

Have a look at http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17777. It is a diagnotics mode on the climate control unit.

Used the diagnostics and the temp needle. Needle passes the zero mark at 54-55ºC. The 1/4 mark passes at 74ºC. Today I got all the way up to 86ºC but between 80-86, there is very little needle movement.
