Does anyone know if this civic will ever get released in australia?

http://www.honda.sk/models.asp?mid=10

My friend when he went back home which is in Slovakia he saw this Civic and said it is way better equiped than the 06 Euro's looks very nice and sleek design and would buy this over the Euro any day, and is priced around the 26 - 28k converted to AU$.

It's just the 1.8L. :(
How could this engine compete with Mazda3 2.3L !!!

E46 M3 is only 3.2L how can this compare to a V6 commodore??

How much did it end up costing you? also the civic is the shifter still in the middle or down the bottom like normal cars?

Which 2.0L DOHC VTEC are you talking about? The one that has 119kW?

Anyway, the 1.8L engine in the Civic pushes 103kW, which is only 12kW less than the Mazda3 SP23. Remember, you are comparing an SOHC 1.8L to a DOHC 2.3L engine!

Honda 1.8L
Power: 103kW @ 6300rpm (60kW per litre)
Torque: 174Nm @ 4300rpm (96.7Nm per litre)

SP23 2.3L
Power: 115kW @ 6500rpm (50kW per litre)
Torque: 203Nm @ 4500rpm (88.3Nm per litre)

Honda's 1.8L engine is much better tuned than the Mazda's 2.3L just by looking at peak power and torque figures. And fuel consumption-wise, I've read the press release by Honda that the engine was designed to reduce pumping losses so that fuel economy is actually improved by 6% over the 1.7L engine in the previous Civic.

That's what Ive always found amazing with Honda, to be achieving such figures from smaller engines when compared to the competition

The specs show that the Mazda3 2.3L is clearly superior to the Civic 1.8L
Anyway, to Honda's engineering credit, the shifter for the new Civic is now at the bottom but the floor is still flat.

With your logic, Holden's 3.6L V6 is clearly superior to the DC5R's K20A. You're starting to sound like one of those "there is no replacement for displacement" types. :p

Please don't mix numerals and letters i.e. DC5R's K20A with your post.

lol exactly, well said.

Though a 2.0L Civic would have been really nice, you must admit ;)

LOL, are you serious? You can't handle numbers and letters together? :D
I thought you were hondarox and you would know that DC5R is the 2000-2004 Integra Type R and the K20A is the 2.0L DOHC VTEC engine with 147kW. Guess I am disappointed.... :(

aaronng,
Don't be disappointed.
My Honda progression is only from a new '96 Civic VTI to a new '04 Legend.

well.... its really not that true to judge a car's performance to others by just comparing its engine size, max output and torque.. remember that there are other things and matters much more than just above mentioned... like power to weight ratios.. RPM for max power and torque,,, and the power curves... i guess this comvo will easily conclude after the official release of the new civic and maybe wheels or private users may test out these two cars...
also same engines will perform so differently when putted on different cars... lets take the toyota VVTI-L 2.0 that has been put on celica, corolla sportivo, and the lotus elise(exige?)
just my 2c
