Thinking about droppin a B18C Integra Type R engine into a Honda Civic, EK or EG.

Trajedy struck a couple of weeks back when some fool crashed into my integra :( . There is now one less Type R on the road guys. :( :( Luckily the front half (the vauable half) is fine and the idiots at the insurance company had no idea what the engine was worth. :) Deciding to sell it back to me for a measly 1K. :) :) Slightly offended, I accepted their offer. So.....

Wanna know what you think? EG or EK? Leaning towards EG at the moment because of the diff in price!

I am planning to transplant almost all the dc2r goodies, including diff, gearbox, drive train etc.

Any advice? Rough costs, things to look out for, ideas?

Sorry to hear about the car man...

personally i'd go with the EG, I've always preferred the shape of EG downsides are the older looking interior and that's about it as far as I can see.

yeh go for the eg...

more of a sleeper..

speak to samo on these forums, or even ecu-man

they have both done b18c conversions

in terms of costs - wateva u cant use from that half cut u will have to buy

how are the driveshafts?

also do u know the condition of the engine in terms of services?

small costs like seals and fluids u might want to change which all add up.

good luck with the swap - take heaps of pictures so we can all see

:)

EG is more sex then EK so EG

There’s no comparison!!!!!!!!!!

The EG it without a doubt the sexist Civic ever made straight off the showroom floor
Sexy curves and bends, interior’s lacking a bit but you can’t have everything

The EK is the complete opposite, one of the most boring Civics ever made IMO
Lost all its Sexy curves

Just my opinion

I'd say EK, newer and better chassis, not much of a weight difference and I prefer ek's shape...

definitely not 150kg, 98 model ek gli is 1009kg, surely eg can't be 850kg, the weight difference would be around 30kg according to the redbook.

em1 weighs 1114kg according to motor magazine and redbook, dont' really know about ek4 tho...
on my rego papler, which is a 97ek gli hatch, it says 1009, same as the redbook...so guess all the info is pretty legit

rego papers are often incorrect mate

for example my rego paper says sedan for a EG3 hatch back.

EG would be much more fun!! Esp with dc2r gearbox.... :)

just make sure you get a Efi EG to save yourself the trouble of converting from carbie to efi.

if i was to get an EK then k20a in it for sure

Still mourning at the moment.....

**Hey tried putting some pics up for u's to c. but it says I've exceeeded my quota by 225.1kb. Each pic is only 226kb. what's the deal? neva tried this b4...help**

Yep...Decided EG. Sorry to all the EK guys. But its cheaper, lighter and......looks betta (me thinks)!!!

Hey, so how much harder is it to convert from Carby? I thought only the SI model EG came with SOHC 1.6 litre???? The VTI model is still carby isn't it??? Will prob look for an SI anyway, hate rear drums.

And how come everyone does conversion with the EG hatches and not the sedans. Personally, I like the look of the sedans but I have yet to see one with a conversion. Is the only reason cause they weigh bout 40kg more or is there more to the story?

just to clear up:
Si is not carby. its EFI (DOHC Non VTEC D16A8)
Both Si and Vti come with rear discs. Gli has rear drums.
as far as conversions go there is no diff between hatches and sedan.
so you could go a Gli, as it would be cheaper and still has EFI and all electrics, then a do rear disc conversion or go a Si or Vti if you cant be stuffed doing rear disc conversion

thanks ECU-MAN. Good guide to what's involved.

I swear my mate has a VTI EG Civic with rear drums.....maybe I'm wrong....

not sure about the condition of everything. Have only had a brief look. When I get the car back I will have to check everything out.

Hey any1 in Canberra know any1 gd to do the conversion for me?
