What is the point to these?

I can see the point to turbocharged cars, but any use for them in NA cars?
I heard somewhere that if the exhaust is heating up heaps then the car might be running lean??

Why not just use a air/fuel ratio gauge?

Yes. We never used them. They are useless except in see what the temp was. The O2 sensor is more helpful. You can find all sorts of problems with those.

OMG
where do you get this information form?

People have been using these on all kinds of motors for decades with great success, especially NA cars.

Just ask any oldschool pushrod engine tuner.

Claymore is spot on. Some of you guys need to pick up a book or two and read.

we used a holley part on the HQ race car was very handy coupled with an adjustable jet. A series of lights would light up if it didnt light enough lights or light to many your mixture was out. we found it very usefull as you can tune your car for a particular straight an not just tune by ear as the car sits.

i'll refrase. they are a great tuning tool when trying to find an optimal running range. Id argue the comp run on the street NA is not high enough to warrent running one all the time though.
