hey guys,

Does it make difference where I take my car to get a wheel alignment. Like, will my local tyre shop do just a good a job as anyone else? Or should i take my car to someone trusting.

the better quality job/tooled it is , the more accurate the alignment.

A full front and back laser alignment is far better than using 2 pieces of string on either side and 4 x turntables lol

When I tell my friends I pay $100 for a wheel alignment they think it's stupid and a waste of money when you can get one for half or even less.

But, I have taken my car to get a wheel alignment at the cheaper places, and I can honestly say if you are picky and compare it to a GOOD wheel alignment, the cheaper ones suck. I even paid good money at some places and still not 100% happy with the alignment.

There is only one place I will ever take my car to get a wheel alignment, so my advice is try a few and stick to the one you are most happy about. And don't go to a cheap one

id pay around $60-70 for a good full laser alignment...If you have good tyres and wheels and suspension , then a decent wheel alignment is essential for the operation and longevity of your car !
Otherwise if runnign jsut stockies jsut go for the $30 or 40 specials at bob jane or kmart etc.

ive been to Bob Jane a few times
different places and find that they dont know what they are doing, the car go but the steering wheel is worst off then before and i went back like 3 times before giving up

I personally recommend Beaurepaires
full laser for around $70 and you dont need to go again for a redo

i paid i think $60 for a wheel alignment and yes they use that laser one, cos there is 4 hubs going on the wheels and the computer tells the alignment.
I did mine at Mems Auto in Mt Pritchard

Speaking to a mate of mine in the industry and he said wheel alignments are the biggest sham/money-spinner.

It's very difficult to find someone you trust with this job as usually it is difficult to tell if they have done incorrectly until you see some nice (and often expensive) irregular tyre wear! (Yes I have just had that happen to the Jazz)

Which reminds me....I better go and get an alignment now.

Bob Jane blow at wheel alighnments

I agree too, I used to take my cars over the years Bob Jane and had to go back time after time. I only kept going back cause it was close to work. I had my Honda dealer do my last 1 and it's perfect (from what I can feel)

I recently got an alignment at a place my mech recommended out of about 5 different shops in the area. The bloke at the shop said it take a good a good operator using the $30K alignment machine to produce good results because there are a number of dependent factors such as degree of lowering which determines how much camber and toe-in/out to be adjusted. I saw the operator adjust some bolts underneath the car no where near the wheels and looked at the computer screen so I take this to mean that alignments are complicated things and it is wise to get a good aligner.

you dont need a 30k machine to do a good alignment, you need a properly tought tech and brains to understant what your doing, to every action there is a reaction. alot of nubs tend to f@&k up when they dont understand how there machine works, or understand what happens when they make changes.

these expensive machines just eliminate the intial calibration of the alighner as its placed on your rims. saves time and time is money.

acuracy is important but a wheel alignment machine is only as acurate as its calibration .

I tried a few ( one that even a honda dealer uses! ) and i had to go back to them time after time after an alignment 'was done'.
Bought tyres from them too - Bridgestone GIII and potenza RE040s.
Goodness.

Anyway, I went to the one below and it's been good - no complaints.

I tell the wheel alignment place what settings I want and they do it for me. I'm happy 95% of the time, even if it is a cheap place. The remaining 5% is when they adjust the front toe such that my steering wheel is not pointing straight.

Fair enough. Where abouts to do you go to, Aaronng?

thank you

the first beauriepairs place i got my tyres changed car was too low to get up on the machine, so went up the road to their other store where they had a bed type, and i actually helped the guy out > thus ensuring it was spot on! top bloke this was at beauriepairs campbellfield, most of these guys are apprentices that dont give a rats arse and have nfi.

one in bris that i always use is your choice at inala. 4 wheel laser 65 bucks. tell them your own settings etc too. they take it for a drive after to make sure the wheel is straight etc. ghetto but hey when your just as bad as the people running round those joints you feel at home.

I always make sure that my wheel alignments are perfect and every car gets roadtested for quality control. none of that close enough is good enough bullshit. we have 4 wheel laser aligner too so none of that strings and measuring tape stuff. so yeh, puttin myself out there but come and visit us if u cant find anyone that will do the job properly.
